Hello, I was denied admission on dec 8th, and am currently in the process of appealing, as they said I could. On the piece of paper they sent me, it told me my appeal letter will be my voice amongst the admissions committe and that my parents and counselors should not help me write it.

Do you know anyone who has appealed and had it approved?

A friends daughter last year was deferred on ED, deferred again from RD1 to RD2, then....rejected. The college guidance counselor tried to help her appeal...they were unsuccessful. She is now very, very happy at FSU and wonders why she got so bent out of shape over her UF denial. Sometimes things happen for the best.

Oh I know, Im not going to get my hopes up, Im just sending in tons of support, newspaper articles, awards, excellent letter of recommendations, a strong appeal letter, pictures of my artwork and what not so they dont think im a liar.

Go for it. UF seems so sporadic this year with admissions. I mean really, who do they think they are, Harvard? Someone at my school with good SAT's (1200 range), great classes, decent EC's, and great GPA (like 3.8/4.4) got flat out REJECTED for ED. He was hispanic too. And so many other people got accepted who didn't deserve it over him (or some of the others rejected). You could not have predicted the acceptances/rejections at our school.

Amen, I live near UF as well and perhaps the most annoying part of UF admissions is that it is completely unpredictable. There is no formula to get in, and by the looks of the stats of people who were accepted/rejected it looks like people are chosen at random. I know they are trying to become an even more respected school, but this is just ridiculous.

Only 2??? Basically 20-30 people hav already been accepted from our school (685 kids in class) and this is only through round one.

dre...that sucks for him man. I would definitely appeal that.

But seriously, when Yale and Harvard and all them reject people while accepting others, it's at least respectable. They try to round out their classes the best way they can with their limited number of spots. UF, on the other hand, is just being ridiculously stupid with their admissions. Rejecting someone who would have automatically qualified for their honors college while accepting a bunch of other completely random people is simply absurd.

they had their first appeal meeting yesterday and mine was reviewed yesterday currently in the mail!!!! lol, im nervous, i kinda like this feeling of anxiously awaiting keeps me alive :). Cant be too optimistic because the university is not going to pass through a lot of appeals due to a full class. wish me luck..lol

your friend who appealed the UF decision, what were their stats etc? I told in my appeals letter i didnt include updated gpa 3.3-3.6-3.8 at end of year from a 2.7 freshman year, all my art honors from congressman florida senators, state competitions, best of show in sculpting in panhandle region and county, I even mailed my portfolio along with very deep letters of recs, how hurricane ivan really MESSED ME UP and the fact my mom and dad never went to college etc.

Yes bballmom, they said that my appeal was reviewed a couple of days ago and now is in the mail. I feel like I could fulfill UF's institutional needs of artistic talent. A bit worried though, as they said their class is pretty full.

I hope you get in! But of course it is wise to manage your expectations. My son has also appealed and I can see that he is somewhat anxious as well. It sounds like they have given you some good info though. I did not think they would send their answer out so quickly. My understanding is that they will have several meetings.
