thanks bballmom I hope your son gets in too! My back up plan is FSU, if I dont like it ill transfer later. I dont know why they dont give out statistical info about appeals, I ask a Q about it and they say its confidential and that the only thing they can tell me is that they receive them and make decisions.

I know people who got in with 1000's and with NO Adv Placement classes

while others with AP classes and GREAT SCORES were rejected outright.

and believe me, it wasn't because of "circumstances"

and it wasn't because of great/poor essays

I am thinking about appealing... though I dunno... do I want to go to the school that bad? EH

They really are random...

a kid told me that his sister was told that she was rejected, but when she called, they said they had made a mistake. anyway, i called and i asked about appeals because if it was a long process, i would not even consider... well i was told that they only let kids come in due to extenuating circumstances...

how do you go about an appeal? is there a link to a form? could someone share?

you have to call the admissions officer, ask for an appeal form, theyll ask for your address name etc, they will send you a packet. Better hurry up, because I assume the earlier you appeal the better your chances?

You have to understand that the admissions officers make their decisions for a reason. They don't just stick applications in a box and pull out acceptances. I know you guys see inconsistencies, but we are not in the committee meetings when they decide who is in or out.

yankee boy, did you get anything in the mail yet?

no not yet, I expect a decision by tomorrow or very latest wednesday. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

OMG, good luck! We'll be praying for you! I wish I could just give you my spot!

Hang in there!!

thanks guys, hey bballmom what did you include in your appeals package? BTW only 4 kids from my senior class of 351 got accepted to UF while 25+ kids from the neighboring high schools got in, that is not right.

erhswimming, haha i wish i could get that spot.

The appeals page, my son's letter, 1 letter of recommendation. I think that was it! I know someone who sent 3 letters of recommendation with their appeals, my guess is that was too much.

at my son's school, only two got in and one is not going.

wow, I just called again today, and they said they will review mine tomorrow...when they told me they already did...Oh man...in my appeals package I put in my art portfolio, new awards, 6 letters of recommendation (might be too much, lol) and newspaper articles etc...I might be overloaded... but hey gotta do what you gotta do to be a florida gator. ALSO, I asked how many appeals were approved this year (my phone was staticy) and I think the admissions rep said 'unfortunately none', I hope thats not what I heard, I hope it was 'fortunately some'. Wishful thinking.

Keep us posted! I think everyone reading this is pulling for you, so let us know!!

Hey, any news on your appeals? My S appealed also -- he was rejected ED and found out that a small error on his HS transcript might have lowered his gpa by .1 (big difference with UF grade standards!) He wrote a letter, and got a letter from his HS counselor confirming the error. (no other letters were sent with the appeal -- just corrected transcripts) He also had new SAT scores that missed the cutoff for ED that raised his SAT 30 points. We just found out on Thursday (the 12th) that his appeal was successful and he was admitted to UF. I have been watching this thread and hoping for success for yankeeboy and bballmom's son -- keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Congratulations to your son, orchid.

...also, your son had a valid reason to appeal. He was originally evaluated on an erroneous GPA and now he improved his SAT score, which is great. Sending more LOR alone will not do it.

Thank you, ASMAJ. Even with a valid reason, though, an appeal is a very uncertain thing -- we really didn't believe that it would work. But it was definitely worth the effort. The other thing he did was to stay in touch with the admissions office on a regular basis (calling at least every two weeks) since December. He also sent a couple of nice letters in Dec and Jan to remind them that he was interested in appealing, and he went to visit in February. Don't know if any of that helped, but you never know.

thanks for your concerns orchid, unfortunately my appeal was not approved. Neither was my friends nor their friend. One individual I knew had a 4.1 gpa and 29 ACT, both parents were UF volleyball championship players, denied. I don't know, but I might transfer it all depends. I thought the best school in florida would be inclined to accept the best students from all types of backgrounds. Have fun at UF, I MIGHT see you there in awhile...lol

My son was going to appeal. I was baffled over his not being accepted in the first place. 1400+ MV, 3.8 UF GPA, excellent EC.... But I'm over it (and it took a while, believe me).

Now he has received a housing contract from his safety school (which also has given him a scholarship). He has less than two weeks to return it. Given the slim odds of an appeal changing his status, and the fact that there is probably no way we'd hear before the housing contract due date, I think we're going to let it go. Given his AP credits, it will be just over a year before he can apply as a transfer student (if that's what he wants to do then) and possibility of a transfer may be motivation to keep a 4.0 in college.

Good luck to you, YankeeBoy, in your new school. Maybe you and my son will meet up at UF in a year or two.
