I did not apply for FA during the beginning of the year, and unfortunately the deadline has passed for FA applications--although my parents are still able to pay for my full tuition. However, they are also interested in the Stafford loan. I went to the website that outlines details about FAFSA, FA, etc. and have found that in order to apply for the Stafford loan, I must file a FAFSA report first. Is it too late to file a FAFSA for my school (Carnegie Mellon)? I am not requesting grant or scholarships specifically, but my parents are interested in the Stafford loan. Thanks in advance for any clarification!

File it now. The school should be able to down load it in a few days.

By filing a FAFSA I am able to potentially obtain a Stafford loan, either subsidized or non-subsidized? Also, it is too late to receive FA for the 2006-2007 school year, correct? Thanks for the quick response!

no it is not too late. If you have a Pin, you will get your SAR within/3 business days. You can contact the school's FA office to let them know that you file (they probably won't give you any greif since you are looking to take a loan vs. hitting them up for grant money).

However , if you can afford to pay the tuition , it will not be a subsidized loan .It will be in your name.

Your parents can file for a PLUS loan .
