I just got accepted to UCLA and CSULB. I heard UCLA is so hard to keep a 3.8 above GPA and not sure about CSULB. I need some advice. I am planning to go to the dentistry after getting my bachelor degrees. I think I have to keep a high GPA.
For pre-dentistry you should go to UCLA. You aren’t going to do yourself any favors by looking for an easier path-- you may end up with better GPA at CSULB but a harder time actually getting into dental school or keeping up once you are there if you do get in. You’ll have better options long term from UCLA, whether or not you achieve your goal of dental school.
@MrHolmes “This is a no brainer” means that the decision is so simple and easy to recognize that you need not think about it. UCLA full ride is something almost anyone would want and few of our family members will ever get. 3.8 sounds high but if that is what a full ride from financial aid and scholarships requires then you must do it. UCLA has so many ways to help students and happymom1 mentioned some above. Buckle down, work hard and dentistry school will be where you will end up with debt free undergrad
Definitely UCLA. Work hard, believe in yourself. Take advantage of every resource. You may not get above a 3.8, but you will have the time of your life. You will receive an excellent education and have some wonderful opportunities that come along with attending a school like that and by graduating without essentially any debt.
@MrHolmes . . . I’d like to read between the lines, with some questions if I may…
1.) I’m not comprehending how one could you get a full ride at UCLA and not CSULB; does this have anything to do with the Blue and Gold Plan? If it is, then it’s need-based apparently, and possibly in addition to work-study. That might be a bit tough.
2.) Does this cover room and board? UCLA is trying to dissuade anyone from commuting, especially freshmen, because the adjustment is a very tough one. Room and board at UCLA is ~ $15,000.
3.) Would you be commuting to CSULB? If not you’d be paying ~ $7,000/year.
I don’t believe you need a 3.8 necessarily to get into dental school. Here’s the website to USC’s Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry. Good website, very informational….
UCLA’s dental website is not very good, so I won’t link it.
I think that going to LB would be doable if you wanted a seat in dental school.
