<p>I give in; waiting sucks. Chance me. (Hope I'm doing this right.)</p>

<p>I'm a white girl from California.<br>
GPA: 3.4ish uw/3.86ish w (at a very competitive public magnet program - to give some perspective, I got C's in two classes where I got 5's on the APs, and it's not because I'm lazy)
RANK: top 12%
CLASSES: By the end of senior year, I'll have taken 9 APs and 10 honors courses. The only things that were neither were electives (orchestra and journalism).</p>

<p>That testing stuff:
SAT: 800CR/710M/800W
SAT IIs: 790 Literature, 760 US History, 680 Physics
APs: 5s in Euro History, US History, English Language. 4 in Calc AB. 2 in Physics B.</p>

<p>Senior Schedule:
Honors Bio, AP Stat, AP English Lit, AP Macroecon/Gov, Honors Lit Analysis, Journalism - first semester I got 5 As, 1 B</p>

<p>ECs:
- Editor-in-chief of school paper and magnet literary magazine (I've worked on both for two years)
- 3 years of violin in the school orchestra
- Historian for Junior State of America
- Staff writer for local teen magazine
- Work for a state assemblyman (policy/community service)
- Tour guide for a museum
- Hebrew school/Jewish Student Union
- Selective summer program in creative writing at CalArts
- There are a few others, but those are the major ones.</p>

<p>Awards:
- California Scholastic Federation (honors society)
- Semi-finalist for State Board of Education seat, also for Senate Youth Program
- School English award
- Smith Book Award
- National Merit Finalist
- Published in several newspapers, anthologies, etc.
- California Arts Scholar
- 1 of 50 students in USA chosen to compete in the National Vocabulary Championship</p>

<p>My essays were pretty damn good if I do say so myself (common app was about writing a novel a page a day, UChicago essay was about trying to choose an essay topic), and I think my reccomendations were fairly good as well - I didn't get to read them. I don't know if it's any kind of a bellwether, but I've already been accepted to USC (Annenberg School of Journalism) and am competing for a Regents' scholarship at UCSC. I was rejected ED at Brown (big surprise there).</p>

<p>Schools I'm applying to: UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSB, Claremont McKenna, Reed, Northwestern (Medill), UChicago, NYU, Sarah Lawrence, Vassar, Swarthmore, Smith, Brandeis, Tufts, Boston U.
Major: Journalism at the schools that offer it, political science at the rest
Yes, I'm insane. You don't have to answer for all of those. I just want to know whether my lousy GPA will sink the rest of my app or not.</p>

<p>Your profile's hard to judge. Your GPA is kinda low for UCB/UCLA, but the rest is pretty awesome ... the latter might outweigh the former.</p>

your SAT scores are pretty excellent
ecs are nice
but the GPA makes UCLA , U CHi, Northwestern, errrm and Brandeis, Tufts, Swarthmore, and Nyu reaches (from what i read)
however, you seem charming, your college essays will probaly be spectacular, which gives you a chance with your great SAT scores
the Cs were in hard ap classes, you might want to expalin that somewhere in your apps</p>

<p>Yeah, I agree with jadedjunior - your GPA will present a problem at Northwestern, Chicago, Tufts, Northwestern, Swarthmore, but you do have a great all-around profile. So you may be happily surprised come April; though keep in mind that these schools are all reaches.</p>

<p>I think that you have a really great chance at Vassar, Sarah Lawrence, NYU, Smith, and Brandeis which range from high to mid-matches.</p>

<p>Thanks a ton for the opinions and kind words, guys. I did write a note explaining to colleges that my school grades pretty harshly, and I think my counselor did as well. I agree with you that a lot of those schools are probably reaches, but hey, a girl can dream, right? As long as I have a few safeties, I'm good.</p>
