I plan to apply early to Duke. Don't know how realistic it sounds with that 78 % in maths and science :( :(

Well since your SAT is 800 and your EC’s are all in science and math, maybe that might make up for it? You should definitely apply to Duke still EA because you never know.

↑ reply : well thanks . Yea duke is what i am thinking about. It does not have EA , just ED.

Btw, i did not ge the last bit of your reply.

‘because you never know.’

And i have more of EC’s which are not science related. Debate/dramatics/photography/Movie Making and stuff…

Dude, DO NOT, DO NOT mention ‘representing school’ at COFAS. Its an open for all competition held by my school. Also, were some guys from your school(or you yourself) present at Quanta?

Some of those achievements are pretty impressive, but don’t spoil them with stuff like 427 rank in NCO. That’ll make the other stuff look bad.

Also, I’d suggest you not to apply to Duke early. Do a place with EA, not ED(I believe Duke is the latter). And what matters more in US admissions are your 11th and 12th grades. If you are really good at science/maths, I could probably suggest a few competitions.

I was pretty much in the same situation as you(and ‘who isn’t’ is a LOT of people on CC) so here’s my college list for a start(keep in mind I was more bent towards research and theoretical physics, not engineering)- http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1064980091-post7.html</a>
Also, don’t be too sure about college essays. Its an entirely different world, otherwise literature majors would account for more than half the ivy kids :stuck_out_tongue:
Send me a ‘message via email’ if you’d like to add me on messenger and have a more detailed discussion about how you could go ahead with your apps :)

Yes sure. I message you right away. Whatever i wrote above was all in a jiffy. Thats probably my first post here at CC.
I will give you more details on gmail( if you are there). okay?

And what i intended to say about COFAS was that, there is a slight chance that i might click over some event there!

You’ve got a bunch of great extra-curriculars and sat scores… Your 85% will most certainly be made up by these creds!

Also you shud know that they are looking for an upward movement. If your marks have improved then well and good! You can add UPenn to your list…

okay, thanks lot anirudh. Well i want to know regarding those blanks towards the end of my first post.

Reach-
ED-
Match-
Safety-

if you could just suggest anything.
Btw what’s your status currently?

^Aniruddh is most likely in the same boat as you!

↑ harvard17 , okay thanks for the quick info.Say something over my ‘boat’ and add to its direction.

Yeah I’m pretty much in the same boat as you… Got 90% in my 10th but I messed up my 11th… Got a 60%

You’ve got good stats… Aim for a 90+ in your 12th boards.

You can add northwestern, cornell as reaches… Apply to purdue since everyone applies there as a safety… Apply to a school early decision only if you’re obsessed about going there because it’s binding!

Early Decision matters to me. It really does.
BTW, purdue has scholarship for international students?

what about upenn, it provides full scholarship?

Let’s give you and your boat some direction! Right-O?

If you have fixed your mind on applying early decision to a school, it’s a good sign. But, please be sure that this really is the school of your dreams, because if it isn’t and you are indeed accepted, you will have a very hard time living that dream out!

Purdue, as far as I know, does not offer International Scholarships. It is, however, cheaper than the Private giants.

Penn is a Need Sensitive School. It does offer international students financial assistance, but only to a selected few. To ballpark, about 50 or so.

Gary might be able to offer you a better perspective for he was accepted to Penn this year!

Oh god, I just read your post again and it said that you need aid…

Ivy league univs give aid to really good people… Purdue etc will give u aid… I can’t really comment on the whole financial aid scene since I’m applying for next year as well… Ask someone who has gone thru the process.

Oh and if you apply ed and get accepted, you HAVE TO GO THERE, and accept ANY fin aid package they throw at you! (Sometimes none at all!)

that must be a scary undertaking. do you get protection from chinese embassy? (joking)

seriously, u seem to have achieved a lot. good luck!

" Oh and if you apply ed and get accepted, you HAVE TO GO THERE, and accept ANY fin aid package they throw at you! (Sometimes none at all!)"

Aniruddh, all schools with ED have a thing that if you are not satisfied with their financial aid you can come out of their binding contract. But yeah, it will be in your best interest of the OP to not apply ED if he needs financial aid so that he can compare financial aid from various schools.

The OP said he needs financial aid BIG TIME. Don’t apply to Purdue then. It will still cost about $40K per annum.

NASA where? Link for details please?

Couple of suggestions :

Tone down your resume. Just put down whats important. For example :

Professional how? Just knowing how to ride horses and to play golf doesn’t make you a professional. And camping under his supervision is not an achievement either. Colleges take your resume seriously and you can’t be vague about anything.

You are putting down stuff that you think you are going to do. There are a lot of people who apply to colleges who think they will do a lot of things. Don’t add stuff just to pad up your application. And I hope you have everything to prove the ECs you have stated. College sometimes do random checks, if found lying they will reject you.

Since you need a lot of aid, apply to top colleges and top LACs. Apply to some Ivy Leagues which you are interested in. Stay away from public schools. To be really frank your best bet are liberal arts colleges. They are known to give large amounts of funding to international students. Some LACs have 3/2 engineering programs if not you can get a degree in Physics and pursue engineering at grad school.

Good Luck!

For the Penn perspective, I’m yet to meet an Indian going on financial aid <_<
