Update: I just finished a complete practice test. I did very poorly. Here is the breakdown: 610 CR, 540 M, and 770 W = 1920/2400. I would review my mistakes tonight, but I’m pretty exhausted. I think I may do some ap bio and ap Calc. If time persists, then possibly review some vocab and look at more math stuff.

I’m in a completely different situation I scored 1490 on a formal-full-practice exam about 5 months ago, and I’m going to attempt to improve freaking 500 points (aiming for 2000 on October)

Striving for 800 on math, 550+ on reading and 650+ on writing this time

Jokejoke, albeit most people on CC would say that’s impossible, I think you can do it if you put in the time and work. Our goals are only 100 points apart. What is it that troubles you on the SAT? If I am unclear, what sections are your weakest? What sections are your strongest?

Update- I ended up taking a knife to my PR book. I broke up the practice tests into math and CR/W sections with the answers stapled to the back. It’s annoying because they use both sides of each page, so for the CR I’m missing about half the questions and answers. I’m ok with it because I want to really focus on each 25 min math section by its self so I can do in depth review. Plus I only ever miss the hard CR, which I kept with the proper answers for the most part. I’ll keep you guys posted on whether I like having them all separate. I think I’ll keep the BB tests in tact so I can do legitimate testing in a few weeks, but if I like this method I may cut up a few of those as well.

Hap (hope it’s ok if I call you that), are you mostly working on individual sections or full tests like you did today?

Kevin, what types of CR questions are you missing? I don’t know how much help I could offer, but I’d be happy to try.

JJ, you can totally do it! I’m trying to improve by 300+ and I honestly believe it comes down to how badly you want it. If you want it, you’ll go get it regardless of how much time or effort it takes. Have you been studying all those 5 months or are you in the same boat as Hap and I (just now getting down to it)?

Port(I hope you don’t mind me shortening your name. I have an iPhone, which is what I usually access CC from 98% of the time, has ridiculous autocorrect.) I certainly don’t mind! My workload for school is pretty intense, so I’ve made a schedule that I hope I can start following tomorrow. School started last week for me, but I couldn’t do any prep whatsoever. I think I’ll post my schedule here, so you can see. This is my schedule for weekdays by the way. Also, I may change it since my workload varies.
Haphazard’s weekday SAT Schedule:
M: 2 sections CR/M
T: 2 sections CR/M
W: 2 sections W
Thurs: 2 sections CR, 1 mach essay
Fri: 2 sections M, 1 mach essay.

Also, I plan to review my mistakes after each small section. I’ll give you guys a weekend schedule this friday. I was also thinking that since we, I’m not sure how many people follow this thread and what section they’re good at/bad at, should post questions that we got incorrect while taking a practice test for a section, or entire test! We should not only post the entire question with choices, but we should also try to show our reasoning behind choosing the answer. If someone posts a math, CR, or writing question and I happen to know how to answer it, then I’ll try to show that person what approaches I used to answer/solve it and try to explain what step or how you looked at it incorrectly based off of what you thought/worked out. what do you guys think? I’m not sure about you guys, but I sometimes don’t understand why I got something wrong even after reading the explanation. I’m also very sorry for the long, long posts.

Final update for the 19th (I know it’s technically the 20th.): I did not review the ones I got wrong for full length practice test. I read some bio, and no Calc. I didn’t do a bit of college essays tonight. I’m going to sleep! I’ll be back tomorrow.

Thanks for posting your schedule, I always like to see what others are doing so I can morph their methods with mine to make hybrids :). Right now my SAT study has been somewhat sporadic and whenever I can fit it in, but as soon as I have enough flexibility to start a regimen I’ll post it. Who knows, somehow I might fit it in this week- I did not intend to study it today but was motivated by joining this group!

That’s an excellent idea about helping each other out, but I’m a bit unclear about how much sharing is prohibited/copyrighted material? It seems crazy to me that an entire question could be property, but from what I understand everything in the BB is… But I suppose we could just make our own/find online the same sorts of questions? I’ll go reread the copyright thread so I’m clear on the rules. I’d hate for this thread to be shut down.

For general help purposes, my strength is definitely CR. I’m pretty good at the writing section (except the essay) as well. My math is rusty and as far as the SAT goes, average at best. So if anyone (hey lurkers, this is where you hop in! I know you’re reading this because this thread has a massive hit # for 4 people) is struggling with CR give me a shout out . I think helping others (if we can find a way to legally do it) is an excellent way of reviewing material yourself and minimizing errors come test day.

My posts are really long as well haha.

Math my strongest; I always score 730+

Writing WAS my weakest (400 on writing on my practice test 4-5 months ago), but now I my writing score is about 600-700 after studying + practicing( a 200-300 pts improvement already )

Reading is my weakest. 550 on average

Update: At school. I’ll post when I get home. I might read some of the geometry primer in between classes. My weakest is Math. I need help with Math. If I can significantly improve my math, then I will definitely be closer to my goal. I might even supersede my goal.

feel free to post around my thread too, im shooting for 2100+ as well!
good luck bro!

Really is motivating to see so many people trying to improve their scores, hoping I can do the same! I got a 156 on the psats without any prep at all…seriously my school told me about it just a few days before the test that slots were open for that date now so I can join in (absolutely ridiculous…). Anyways, even if I had known, I wouldn’t have studied as hard as I am now because I have so many goals I want to achieve! Rising junior so aiming for around 1800-1900 this year and around 2100-2300 in my senior year. I know it’s a bit far fetched but I really think I could get there! My math is definitely the strongest but it’s still very weak! People say math and writing are the easiest to improve so I hope I can improve those within the span of a few months! Good luck to everyone, hopefully we can all achieve our goals!

Thanks 5am669.

Update: Well guys I just got home. I’m going to do two sections of Math out of Dr. Chung’s and two sections of CR from the Barron’s guide. Also, I didn’t have time to read some of the Kaplan geometry primer at school. I’ll update you guys after I take the practice sections.

@Hap

If you’re not so good at math, you should watch a series of videos called “Math bootcamp.”

[Integers, SAT Math Bootcamp #1 - YouTube](<a href=“*OLD* Integers, SAT Math Bootcamp #1 - YouTube”>*OLD* Integers, SAT Math Bootcamp #1 - YouTube)

it helped my friend raised his score from 550 range to 650 +. After you reach 650+ you should just practice continuously and sharpen up your skills

Jokejoke, I watched those videos, but I’m not improving. I watched all 44, or so videos before school started. :(

I just finished two sections of CR. I did TERRIBLE. -8 on both. I think I’m just exhausted. I couldn’t really concentrate. I’ll update again after Math in a bit.

This thread is great! It makes me feel like I should get my lazy butt off the couch and study again. I’m a junior now; I took the PSAT sophomore year and didn’t do so well. I’m planning on going past 2100, and I’ve got Barron’s SAT, the blue book, and Dr. Chung’s. I didn’t actually get to any of it because I’ve been so lazy. Since school’s almost starting, I’m getting more motivated to actually work on it and I’ve begun Dr. Chung’s. I REALLY suck at math, but do great on the CR and writing portion. My plan right now is to use Dr. Chung’s to brush up on some math and study ~45-50 words a day. Within the next two weeks, I’ll get started on the other books. I hope this thread keeps going and good luck to everyone! :)

I watched some online math tutorials (don’t think they helped much…) and did a practice PR math section. I missed 6 :(. Most of their explanations don’t really make much sense… Do you guys have any advice? I can’t find any good, clear, comprehensive math review, and while I have been able to work out some of what I don’t remember by myself, I’m starting to get scared…

@Hapazard

What troubles you on math? You’re in AP calc, so you should be a pretty solid math student.
