I am officially screwed.

Yup, I've just been hit with the deadline stick. My dumbass decided to JUST apply to Johns Hopkins after weeks of not caring about the school. Until today, I had no intention to apply to the school. Without thinking about the holiday break, I sent in my application, and whipped up 2 very good essays in under 2 hours (I think they're very good). My SATs and GPA are nowhere near the middle 50% of the students, there, so this was pretty much a very long reach. I mostly did it to shut my parents up about not reaching.

So I send in my application, and decide to call my school in hopes of finding my counselor there to have him send in my recommendations and transcripts. Of course, he wasn't there, and was not coming back until the 3rd, 2 days after the deadline. With curse words shooting out of my mouth (cursing at my stupidity) I sent him an email telling him about the situation. Hopefully, he checks his school email address and somehow pays my school a visit and sends in my transcripts and recommendations.

In the email, I asked him if it was possible for him to call up JHU and ask them if it was okay to send in my applications 2-3 days late. Do you guys think JHU will be fine with this?

Another question: There is this extra form they want me to send them. I was going to send it through regular mail, but I don't think it will get there on time, so I want to fax it to them. Is faxing a financial supplemental form a good idea? Thanks.

I am screwed.

I don't think faxing a financial supplement will be a good idea. Then again, I'm slightly paranoid and an international kid.

Well, does JHU go by postmark deadlines or "have to be there by that date" deadline? Either way, your recommendations/transcripts will miss the postmark deadline.

Theoretically, it takes a while for applications to collate at the admissions offices since it all tends to go in separately, but ...well, I don't know if JHU will be fine with it and I don't think it'll be a good idea to email asking, because they wouldn't like being an afterthought.

Perhaps risk it?

(Doesn't JHU also require the SAT's? That's additional money and time...)

You should call JHU and ask them. Many schools allow items to be submitted after the deadlines if you let them know.

I sent in my SAT scores but who knows how long it will take Collegeboard to send them...JHU says don't rush-send the SAT scores.

I think I'll take the risk and have the counselor send them anyway, even if they say they can't work around the deadline. Hopefully they won't just look at my name and throw my papers in the garbage.

This is what they say in their application page: "RD postmark/electronic submission deadline: January 1"

BTW, I just realized I put April as my birth date instead of March. I am the biggest moron I know.

Would it be better if I called them myself or if my guidance counselor called them? I don't want to seem like a moron on the phone. I mean, if they ask me ANY question about me rearrange the date, I'll have no answer. I'll just be like "Uhhh...I uhh...****."

I would call them myself, you sound more serious that way.

dude I can relate. I decided to apply ED2 to wash u during winter break. However, the ed contract requires a counselor signature. Since my counselor dislikes me and wouldn't do me a favor if my life depended on it, I just sent the ed contract without her signature. Also, I wanted her to send them my first term senior grades cuz my junior ones sucked, but that's not gonna happen either. Oh well, theres always RD i guess, even if my chances are slim.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. As long as your stuff is in on time they may over look that the other stuff is late.

by the way:

Season's Greetings. As the Admissions staff prepares to enjoy a few weeks of well-earned holiday bliss and relaxation many of you reading this are in the midst of finishing up those Regular Decision applications. January 1, 2006 is fast approaching -- but wait that's a Sunday. Does that mean the postmark deadline is actually December 31, 2005 or January 2, 2006? Don't fret, we will accept and process applications mailed on January 2, 2006 -- but if you are applying online that is not a concern so make sure to submit before the ball drops in NYC (or however your town celebrates the new year).

OP,

Make sure that you, the student have submitted your application in on time (the college will be unforgiving toward you). The college will grant a little leway for your GC and teacher recs, midyear report and transcript which are usually mailed separate from your application.

Make sure that they are done as soon as you get back to school.

My school is closed for the holidays so I can't submit the transcript and/or letters of recommendation until after January 1st. OR May I send supplemental materials for my application after the January 1st deadline?

The application deadline is a postmark / online submission of January 1st for either the Part I and Part II of the JHU Application or the Common Application and Common Application supplement. Supporting materials such as transcripts, test scores, and recommendations can be sent separately after the January 1st deadline. However, we recommend all required documents be postmarked no longer than two weeks after the deadline.

from the same place...

im also screwed, i just decided to apply to boston college, and the deadline is Jan.2. what should we all do?

You should read my 2 posts. At least JHU doesn't care as long as YOUR part of the app is in on time.

I friggin love you guys. Seriously, have my babies. It feels like a ton of weight has been lifted off my back. I'm going to have my guidance counselor send my transcripts in first thing January 3rd.

Off to the post office tomorrow for that form they want me to send.

Now all I gotta worry about is the mistake I made while marking my birthdate. Hopefully they'll be able to change that over the phone.

scorp, do u know anything about BC's deadline?

BC's deadline is Jan 2

Boston College received nearly 24,000 applications last year. Sending the completed Supplemental Application ahead of time will allow the Office of Admission to open a file for you as early as possible. This will help to ensure smooth processing of your application. The Common Application should be submitted after students have sent in their Boston College Supplemental Application for Admission and application fee. Waiting to submit the Supplemental Application until you have finished all portions of the Common Application is not recommended.

It is the applicants' responsibility to see that all admission application materials are received by the Office of Undergraduate Admission no later than January 2, 2006.*** Please remember that January 2nd is a deadline, not a due date. We strongly recommend that students submit their completed applications before January 2nd..***

does that mean that i have no chance of getting in, since it's impossible for me to submit an app before Jan. 2? (school's closed during the break---but i still need to send in a part of the app. that's not online: my transcripts, letters of rec, TEACHER EVALS on COMMON APP, etc.)
