I am over thinking this?

My DD has already submitted EA applications to Case, WPI, Maryland College Park and SUNY Buffalo to study engineering

She sat for the ACT in October in an attempt to fulfill another school’s requirement of Two SAT subject tests or the ACT with writing.

Her composite came out to a 32, which in of itself is not bad but the breakdown is as follows: 35 in both reading and English, 31 in Math and 27 in science.

Now on the common app she submitted for EA it noted that she was sitting for the October ACT.

Her other stats are really quite good 2220 SAT Superscore (760M/710CR/750W), 28 out of 515 in her class, 97 wtd avg excellent ECs. I am concerned that the ACT will reduce her chances at Case and Maryland.

Am I under obligation to submit the ACT scores if it was mentioned that she was sitting for the test? Should I submit.them.

Thanks in advance!

Save the money. I wouldn’t do it. The schools will be exultant that your 2220 kid wants to apply. They won’t care about ACTs – it’d be simply repetition

Unless these particular schools require that you send all of the tests you are under no obligation to do so. And in any event most schools just use the higher of the tests anyway so I don’t think it would hurt.

If the school does not specifically say you are required to submit all test scores taken you should be fine not submitting the recent ACT. The 2220 SAT is a much better result. With her applying to engineering I think the math and science ACT scores could hurt her chances even though the composite is a fine score.

I assume you mean is She obligated to send the ACT, not you, since it is Her application.

Of course that is what I meant . The schools require one or the other, not both but it did mention on the app that SHE was sitting for the ACT. I was trying to find out if SHE was obligated to report the score even though SHE already fulfilled the application requirements?

But, what about the subject tests? Did she take 2? It’s SAT plus 2 subject tests OR ACT with writing, right?

She chose the ACT route over the Subject Tests, and only one school, Rice, requires one or the other. Rice is a super reach.

So, for Rice, you’ll need to send the ACT with writing. For the others, don’t worry about telling them about the ACT. i don’t think they’ll even care.

Thanks everyone.
