I had a 92 both semesters in AP Spanish Lang. I did well on tests, skits, recitations. Then today, I found out I got a 1 on the AP Test.

For the past 5 years, NOBODY got a 1 on the AP exam at my school. 2s, yes. 1s, NEVER. I personally have never scored lower than a 3. I've gotten mostly 4s.

I am currently an AP Scholar with Honor. Now I can't even bump up to AP Scholar with Distinction.

After the test, did you think that you had done badly? bad enough to get a one? It could be a scoring error, so if you don’t think you deserved that score, I’d recommend you rescore.

I’ll try to console you, anyway. I guess I care about the feelings of a stranger I probably will never meet.

Let’s look at this practically. The fact that you decided to take an AP Foreign Language, one of the hardest branches of the AP program, is proof enough that you have the determination to do well in college. Perhaps you had a terrible teacher or you felt lazy. Such is high school. Whatever. No one will care about it, especially employers, because they won’t even look at it. For those that do, why would they even care about it? You said you were an AP Scholar with Honor; I think that means teachers and students already admire you.

Just work harder in college, be resilient, and quickly move on.

complexity - I don’t remember feeling that bad about the test afterwards, but I definitely didn’t expect a 1. Even a few classmates who didn’t do well in class at all scored a 2 and above.

Thank you very much bluewind for your consolation and good words.

This matters less than you think. Doing well in the class (which you did) is much more vital than doing well on the exam. What most likely happened is you made a mistake unrelated to your proficiency in Spanish (bubbling, going off topic, etc.) - it happens to everyone. If you want to have another try at taking a Spanish test, why not take the Spanish SAT II? Doing well on that would show admissions officers that your AP test result was really a fluke, and they might disregard it altogether.

AP exams don’t really matter, and the AP titles (“Scholar with Distinction”) are a joke. Though I understand getting a 1 was probably a slap in the face (I was somewhat angry when I got a 3 on Physics) it’s not like colleges care at all. It’s nice to get college credits but that’s about the only perk of not failing. Besides, your friends don’t need to know what your score was.

Wait, if you get a 2 or 1 on an ap-test? It will eventually get automatically sent to you college? I thought you had the choice or whether or not you want to…

yeah, I would have them rescore it, especially if you don’t think you did that badly. And like they’re saying, an ap exam score doesn’t really matter too much for admissions at all, it’s mostly for placement once you get into college. so don’t fret! :)

@ LoseYourself, very productive post(idiot)…Ignore him op.

Anyway, just don’t take it as the end of the world. Yeah getting a 1 must feel very humiliating, but still, as you said, you usually get 4s, which are VERY good. It’s just ONE test, dont worry about it too much! And anyway, you got an A in the class, which is excellent.

If you think you did better i suggest you do a Rescore. Your story is similar to mine I received a 2 on my AP us history exam. I KNOW that can’t be right because my essays are IT

If I had to get a 1 on any AP exam, it would have to be like AP Spanish or German. I mean seriously, when are you ever going to need to speak it?

Don’t cry. You gotta man up. Process that rescore and in the meantime, start studying for SATII Spanish. Get a 700 or above, and you’ll most likely get the same exemption that you would have gotten with a 5 on the AP. Harvard even does it that way, and the SATII is a little bit easier b/c there’s not any speaking or writing. Good luck.

Anyway, I don’t want to get your hopes up or anything, but in the language AP’s, I think it’s significantly easier to misplace things because there are so many parts of the exam (essays, MC, audio), so I think it is possible that one or more parts of your score are missing.

If that is NOT the case, it’s no big deal. AP Scholar with Honor is fine enough. Most people don’t take more than one AP and many take none at all. The fact that you have scored well on enough exams to attain that rank is a testament to your abilities. And maybe languages aren’t just your thing… or maybe they are and you just choked on this one. Everyone will understand; even the smartest people sometimes choke under pressure.

In other words, stop feeling bad for yourself and get back on the horse. It’s ONE exam out of many you will take in your life.
