Alas, no–Westlake School for Girls (now Harvard-Westlake).

SO excited, just went shopping for some clothes today as Berkeley is going to be pretty cold for this Florida native! It’s 90 here, 65 in Berkeley, and I can’t wait for the nice weather. :)

harvard-westlake. wowzers.

but no i didn’t stop them. i wasn’t even there. there’s a reason they tell you to walk around with friends because muggers usually work solo (note the usually because my friend said that someone literally jumped out of the bushes, caught him in the jaw with a hook and then he saw 3 other guys pop out, grab his stuff and run).

^That makes me scared about walking back to Clark Kerr at night.

^ Just be smart. Walk along well-lit paths, streets with traffic, or near other groups of people. I walked to and from CK my entire freshman year and was fine. There are major roads you can walk along to get there.

I met a hobo on Saturday night named Rosco. He thinks my name is Ted.

^lol wow that’s kinda funny, bu yeah I really don’t think I want to get mugged. Foothills is really close to campus right so will the chance of being mugged when I walk back at night to my dorm be less?

<<<That makes me scared about walking back to Clark Kerr at night.<<<

Alluric, no one, not at any campus, nationally, should be walking back to the dorm, alone, at night. The wonderfulness of a particular school is mutually exclusive to its safety. Look at Stanford, which has had a problem (because of its open and expansive campus) with rape and assaults. CAL is sandwiched between Richmond and Oakland (two of the murder capitals of the U.S.), and I have been menaced walking across campus at Harvard, in the dusk. And, Wesleyan had a murder on its campus.

So, do the safe thing and pick up the campus telephone that will connect you to the campus escort service.

It’s not a particularly Berkeley problem–not having assured safety walking alone, in the dark, en route to the dorm (be it Clark Kerr or any of the other dorms).

And the street people of Telegraph are generally not menacing–in fact, most of them are too depleted to move. Asking for alms isn’t tantamount to an aggressive or imperiling act.

sigh stupid men…why do they rape/assault girls? I mean if those perves wanted sex, can’t they just go hire a prostitute or something? Or do they do it to get a twisted feeling of control/overempowerment? Sigh, personally I don’t think castration should count as “cruel and unusual punishment” as a consequence for rape but that’s my opinion.

PS: obviously I know not all men do this, but if only there was a perfect solution to prevent the men that do do this from doing it.

one time i was walking to unit 3 at around 3am, and I saw these two guys buying drugs and they were short a few bucks and they started walking in my direction. I just started running and as I was running I heard them begin to chase after me. I quickly unlocked the norton hall entrance and closed the door. That was the scariest night of my life.

oh silly Kal…

^sigh all these stories are starting to scare me…but I’m still excited about Cal (I think)

For your enjoyment, you can read about crime on/around campus here: [UCPD Berkeley | Crime Alerts and Advisories Index](http://police.berkeley.edu/crimealerts/index.html)

wow…I work during the week so for CalSO I flew to Oakland at 9pm and arrived at the Cal’s Bart station at 10pm. I wondered the streets alone for an hour until I found unit 3 (carrying my suitcase and luggage around) and no one assaulted me…thank God…I didn’t know Berkeley was that dangerous.

^it’s different for girls

Not the biggest fan of Cal, but let me just say that you shouldn’t let these instances detract from your college experience. Just be smart about it.
Have BEARwalk in your cell’s address book and call them whenever you feel unsure about walking to wherever you live.
I highly advise to have with you just the amount of money/cash that you need and use debt/credit cards for larger buys/any fancy-ish restaurants (leave the rest at your place).
And if you ever find yourself forced to walk alone home at night, be aware of your surroundings, walk quickly and avoid short cuts.
