I am so so angry. Please help me.

Four steps to pain reduction

Delete as many the strange and suspicious files as you can, keep in mind that not all of them will be gone...its ok.

Download and run stuff
Adware
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5
AND
Spybot SD
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/1043809773/1
AND
MircoSoft anti-spyware
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

Run a FULL scan (NOT the smart scan) on all your files, if the scan can not be completeed, put your computer into safe mode and try again. (press F8 when starting PC). You may need to update some these software first.

Online powerness
Run PandaScan
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

Hijackthis.Log
Download here
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html
and Run a scan and save a log file and post it on here, DO NOT delete anything unless you are 100% sure its bad.....so just post it on here and I shall tell you which ones to kill....and how to kill it....

And thats it, you computer should be spotless and wonderful after that....

and switch your browser to Firefox after all that; it'll help to filter out future ActiveX installations and random stuff

http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/

I also recommend "X-Cleaner" (just type that into google). X-Cleaner is a useful program that has a very no-brainer interface for editing your registry and start up programs. It also has a shredder, a password generator, and scans for spyware/adware. It never hurts to have too many anti-virus programs! Also - restoring your computer is NOT the way to solve your problems. All it does is mask the symptoms for awhile, but it'll only be a matter of time before those old viruses resurface again. Hope this helps.

Wow, I'm so sorry for the profanity, I was just so mad, when I was on last night my blood pressure just like skyrocketed and I ended up getting into a fight with him and then the internet router was taken away again .. sorry. . i'll just count to 100 next time. And my dad was really angry, he started off talking about how he has to come into this house and always sees a problem, and it got pretty violent, like he almost upturned the flippin dining room table, and then he just told us to leave, and for me to try and fix this thing by today

So so far I found a computer forum and this person is helping me, i ran full system scans on Microsoft Antispyware, Spyware Blaster, CCleaner to get rid of the clutter, Ad-Aware, SpyBot, and I did a Panda Anti-Viral Scan. After the previous 5 programs found no more errors, the Panda Scan found no viruses, but 41 instances of spyware, so I tried to disinfect, and they said to use Registry Defenders, so I installed that, and then they said that I could only delete 20/335 found issues. . . unless I paid, but the guy told me I don't have to pay anything to fix the problem. And for firewalls, I think I have a good Windows firewall, and I dont think I have any viruses, I think its just a bunch of spyware. After doing all those scans, the stuff still didn't go away.
.
I right clicked the annoying toolbar (which btw is not listed in View --> Toolbars) and there was an option to disable the toolbar interface, so I clicked that, and it said it would take away the toolbar but to remove the sponsored program I would have to go to the control panel and remove it from the programs list.

I did this, and there was no suspicious program except one called "Window Search", but that didn't solve the problem.
The guy told me to send him a list of my programs and the log through HijackThis Log and I haven't heard from him yet, he said he'd take a look at the log.

So as of now, the desktop icons are still there, even after a bajillion scans and deletions of temporary folders, the toolbar is still active, and I keep getting an error from Microsoft Anti_Spyware saying that a program is trying to change my homepage addrss. . and the pop-ups are still occuring.
The only programs mentioned that I haven't tried yet are CWShredder, WinPatrol, X-Cleaner . . I'll try those and see if it does anything, and see what this guy says about the log..

thank you guys a lot for helping, i really really appreciate it

Did you run a Hijackthis log yet? Hijackthis is more effective than any of them...
If you havent do it right now since that is VITAL and very IMPORTANT.

And go to your C drive and enable the viewing of all files...

And if the only firewall you have is the one that come with windows XP sp2, thats worrisome.

AND POST YOUR HIJACKTHIS LOG....

:D

LOL

Yea, hijackthis will get rid of the worst among em. Prevention is always the best though.

If you don't want to pay for an antivirus subscription, try AVG, a decent freebie.

http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1

And I always think its better to disable your internet connection when doing scans. I dont really have a "scientific" explanation for it, but just try it.

B-B, I just downloaded and ran Hijack this log. Can you tell me where I can post the log file to have it checked? Thanks.

I can have a look for you if you want.

Or you can find any computer forum, they usually have a section about virus/mal-ware removal section and post it there.
Here is one for example,
http://www.computing.net/security/wwwboard/wwwboard.html
You can google it and there will be a whole bunch of them, just pick you favorite.

There are some websites that will check it for you automatically, but I wouldnt recommend that since the computer doesnt take into consideration of all the programs you are running and sometime it has no clue to wether what the file is. It is just not as good as a human being.

:D

well worm viruses work when you're online (unless you have a firewall usually) but she doesn't have any viruses according to her scan

just by NORTON antivirus. trust me it will help you MUCH more than those free downloadable antivirus programs u find on the internet.

I don't know, Norton screwed up my computer more than once and could never successfully remove the bigger, badder viruses (I had to do it manually). I got rid of it and have been problem free since... I'm careful about what I do on the internet though, and have taken lots of precautions with antispyware/registry cleaning/free antispyware programs.

omg, the same thing happened to us this weekend when my cousin installed limewire. We just got a new computer and the internet slowed from super super fast to snails pace. We called our internet provider, and I didn't think they could fix it, but they did. We had to buy a new modem though.

Hm... new modem? Sounds like they ripped you off to me. I think it was a simple matter of cleaning out the spyware/viruses.

Yeah, they had you buy a new modem? interesting......

Which IP was this? Smells like extortion...and why would your cousin install that kind of program?

CounterSpy is good too.

and Avast Antivirus.

RUN Spybot and AVG "PRO", this will do the job. For the AVG Pro, just get the 30day trial.

Because my whole extended family comes over and makes themselves waaaay too at home. The new modem works though, but now my dad's hiring those Geeks On Call people (have you heard of them or are they just around dc?) to fix more stuff. It's realy messed up, but the internet on my basement computer (the older one) works fast and fine. Um Comcast provides my internent (and my cable). We had Norton Internet Security, but I turn it off a lot (although I hadn't the week of the incident).

I know what to do. Just tell your parents that your brother is watching porn on the computer. He will get grounded and not download porn ever again, I think. To get rid of the browser objects download "hijack this" and use it to get rid of all the browser objects.
