First off, congrats to everyone who got in.

But WHY? I considered BU a safety. Yet I got rejected

SAT: mid 2100s
GPA: 3.7
Courseload: mad APs senior year.
SAT II: 800M, 730 Lit
School has no rank

I even did the Honors college essay. Not trying to sound entitled, but I was at least hoping for a bit of money…

Well, admissions are not based solely on stats. You have a good SAT, and decent GPA, but those are not the only factors. You never know what colleges are looking for each year–what type of student, what type of ECs, etc. Essays are also very important, perhaps yours was not what they were looking for. Sounds like you just got unlucky.

Are you saying that you didn’t get in, or that you didn’t get any money? I am slightly confused. Also, what major did you apply to?

I get that you’re disappointed, but I think there’s so much more that goes into admissions beyond just stats (also, just to point out, BU does not consider SATII scores anyways, unless you’re applying for one of the accelerated programs). Colleges seem to be getting more and more selective each year, and when they have a bunch of 2000+ SAT candidates applying, then I think something else from your application has to stand out and they take a closer look at essays and extracurriculars. Although your stats appear to be above average, I don’t think BU is really a safety for anyone nowadays.

I got rejected, applied to Engineering (don’t remember which kind).

Well there’s your answer–engineering at most schools is very difficult to get into.

In reading through several threads here on CC, it appears that many high stat rejects considered BU to be a safety. Maybe that came across in the applications.

BU probably felt that you weren’t interested in attending. To call it a safety school is kinda wack.

I think the fact is that BU used to be a safety school for many, but it has worked hard and successfully at raising its standards and reputation over the last 10-15 years, perhaps even more. It seems like when I went to college in the early 1980s, it was much easier to get into schools like BU or Northeastern. That is certainly no longer the case.

Regardless, I am sorry that you were rejected. Half the time it’s luck–I know a girl who is by no means considered an exceptional student and was accepted, and another kid who IS considered as such and who was wait listed (even though he was accepted to Northeastern early action, where I was wait listed). You can’t really depend on a school like this to be a safety.
