I am trying to transfer for a second time. What is an ok topic for my Common App transfer essay?

I’m currently a sophomore at a #100-120 ranked school looking to transfer for the Fall 2016 semester. I have already transferred schools once between my freshman and sophomore year. As a freshman, I was admitted into a dual-acceptance medical school program at an unranked school. My reasons for transferring the first time around are as follows:

  • Unhappy with academic environment of my first school
  • School did not have a mathematics major program
  • Poor spring semester GPA (~3.6) that I attribute to my unhappiness; I felt it would go downhill if I continued
The first two reasons caused me to contemplate transferring schools quite early in the school year, but I wasn’t until the end of spring semester (reason 3) that I finalized my decision. Unfortunately, by this time the deadline for most schools’ transfer applications had passed, so I transferred to a school for which I was largely (for lack of a better word, don’t mean to sound snobbish) overqualified for.
At my new school, I have made a huge improvement on my spring semester freshman year GPA. I am looking to transfer into a school with a better math program. My question is, which part of my college experience would be best to focus on for my Common App transfer essay? I have begun writing many of the supplemental essays, and I find them a lot easier to write because I can focus on the specific aspects of that school. However, I am a bit stuck on what to write for the general purpose transfer essay. Should I emphasize on wanting to simply enroll in a better math program? How much of my experience as a freshman should I discuss? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I don’t know if I’m too late or not but while you should definitely mention the math thing, it shouldn’t be the main focus of your essay. So many people are going to write about that.
I’m not a transfer student but I found that the prompt says, "Please provide a statement that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve.”
For the first part of the prompt you can briefly talk about math but I think that the most important part of the prompt is about the objectives you hope to achieve. They want to know why they should accept you and what you can bring to campus. You don’t have to talk about your freshman year at all if you don’t want to. Talk about what you can bring to campus whether it is a unique viewpoint or leadership qualities. Focus on your future and how you can change people’s lives for the better. Colleges want to know that you have changed and matured so that you can go out and make an impact in the world.
