Do you think it's actually immature for people to say this? Because I do, sometimes.

No, why not. If you think you are mature, other people will notice as mature. Unless you are REALLY REALLY freak,(don’t want to be rude, though it is true). Though I think you are mature.

Yes.

But at the same time, it’s really hypocritical for me to say this, because I think I am mature for my age. =/

I think it’s very immature. A mature person wouldn’t feel the need to say something like that.

I sort of frown upon people who say that, because if you’re really so mature, you would leave that to be figured out by others…

But they’re too immature!*

*joking

I’ve never heard anyone say this about himself/herself.

Depends on the context, but usually, yes.

It’s called the cognitive bias of illusory superiority. 90% of people think they are above average in their driving skills. 87% of students rated themselves as above the median.

So, it is not hard to conclude that the vast majority of people will think of themselves as having social skills/maturity above the 50% mark. I know I do ;)

This phrase usually shows up a lot in cases of statutory rape.

Oh I’m a terrible driver, I don’t understand how I’ve gone 8 months without an accident tbh.

I personally don’t like this saying, how does one know they are more mature than their peers? They do not understand everybody their age, they haven’t even meet most people their age! Plus, I don’t see why a 34 year old has the excuse to be less mature than a 37 year old.

Anything saying one’s current state other than emotional is pretty annoying. Emotional too.

“I’m depressed.”
“I’m so happy.”
“I am smart.”
“I am outgoing.”
“I’M SO HYPER!”
“I am so freakin’ drunk.”
“Dude, I’m like so, stoned, ahhhhhh”

I think it’s pretty immature. I mean if you have to tell people around you that you’re mature than that means someone more than likely questioned your maturity. I usually say it in the joking way because I know I am very immature!

the last time I said this was maybe when I was 8. After that… I just did me and didn’t give a **** about what people said about my maturity.

Ahh Mr. MIT I follow the same philosophy.
(:

No, I think it’s one of those “actions are greater than words” kind of things.

I don’t think the phrase necessarily constitutes immaturity, but it seems like a truly mature person wouldn’t need to voice it.

I think people should only say this about themselves if others have told them so, not a personal observation.

I think it alot, never out loud. Hypocritical possibly?
