I am VERY TEMPTED to do Policy Debate instead of LD

In Policy last year, 4/9 seniors who graduated who did Policy Debate went to Harvard, and the others to Ivy League schools [ they ALWAYS go to Nationals (and go far) every single year, it is a legendary team ]

But that said, there IS A LOT OF WORK, like LOADS A DAY

Should I take the (big) extra workload, or stick with LD, which also looks really good

(I love debating immensely, I am not doing it just for colleges)

If you love debating, honestly - go to Policy Debate! It’s always good to challenge yourself and loads of work a day for something you love isn’t that bad. And plus Nationals, not only for college, might be an amazing personal experience! Like just going on school trips for competition is so much fun and you get to make friends with your teammates, etc.

I say go for it!

LD usually gets over-filled for HS Selection, so I can get guaranteed debate now (and also increases my chances to go to nationals since so many people do LD)

But isn’t there a lot of homework in HS already?

Oh are you an 8th grader?

For the most part, it’s manageable. Especially early on, but it all depends on how many AP Classes you take and your teachers. Like honestly my workload didn’t get that bad until 10th grade when I started taking AP classes and harder level honors classes. Honestly you get more homework but more time to do it. So instead of an assignment due the next day, you’d get a decent sized assignment due in a few days or like a large assignment due in a week or two.

Yes I am, sorry for stating so beforehand.

Ok, good thing early on the homework load is manageable because the class is “Introduction to Policy Debate,” therefore I can be introduced to the specific debate, and if I like it I can continue it. Also, I can switch to regular LD Debate if I want to in Sophomore

Thanks!
