I applied Princeton ED- will I get in??

I DO know what that is! I am just saying that it might look good, but it isn't going to get him in, IMO! Geez!

FYI, a kid from my school was a Presidential Scholar, NSM, and Westinghouse scholar(can't remember if semi or finalist), and he was rejected from HYP. Now, of course the guy or gal is qualified, that is just my prediction.

Even if I was completely off base, what difference will it make? A decision is probably already made anyways.

The point is that this isn't the only post you've made these spontaneous decisions. It can significantly deter people from applying to many colleges. Judging from your post count, you make a hefty number of posts with your "help." Quite clairvoyant, no?

So I have made a grand total of 2 spontaneous decisions. Big deal. Maybe you should read my other posts that give helpful and friendly suggestions.

"Even if I was completely off base, what difference will it make?"
This statement shows your insensitivity. Most people are very nervous about their changes at various colleges, and it certainly wont help for people to make off-base judgements of their chances. All of us have worked very hard and do not deserve unfounded critizism. I'm not saying you can't critize, but if it's without reason or backing do not post it (same with any post, regardless of its tone).

It makes a difference no matter the status of their application, many people can become saddened by your posts, understandably so.
You specifically posted in my thread about my non existent chances for a school, even going as far as to laugh at me, i quote "HAHA". This could certainly make a difference. I had certainly not applied yet, and was looking for help on college choices.

Those two posts are a big deal to the help-seeking thread starter (I would know, I was one of them). I have looked your previous posts extensively, and have not found very many helpful posts, granted, the two posts in questions are the two most negative and incorrect of the posts i looked at. That is not to say there are not more, but it does not look good that they are your most recent.

Proof of good advice given, along with much more great advice found here:

Do not justifiy your incorrect and off-base posts with previous more acceptable posts. Just work harder on future mosts to ensure your information and thoughts (positive or negative) are backed by truth.

Sorry starbot, but the only chance you have at Tufts is your family connections. And I refuse to take that back, because well, it's true. Never have I discouraged you from applying, I am just honest. Hey, you asked what your chances were, and well, I gave them, so take my advice or blissfully go on with your life. I don't really care. You people are so damn sensitive, geez.

This is an anonymous message board. Take it this way, would you rather me tell you that you have no chance, or your best friend? Because either way, you need safety schools(I really think you have a chance, especially if you pull up your GPA some, but if and only if you pull that GPA up).

I disagree. I believe he has a good chance at Tufts because his GPA was low because of situational circumstances. Your posts are callous and not well thought out. You state that this is an anonymous board and that everyone takes things so seriously? Well maybe you should look at the College Confidential Terms of Agreement - everyone must treat each other in a courteous manner that is not degrading in any sense. I fail to see how "HAHA" is a result of your friendly well constructed advice.

Some more of your "help" after one random sampling of old posts (I just clicked on one number of your previous posts):

"What is your numeric grade in the class? A .98? How is that possible? Did you try to do that poorly?

And no offense, but you need to shape up. If you can't pick up the pace you will never make it in college. HS is WAY easier, and anyone should be able to make at least a B or C in their sleep. Get some motivation, or your habits will turn you into a college drop out. Seriously."

you have to be pretty ignorant not to know Westinghouse. it's only the largest, most lucrative, and most prestigious competition for high school students in the country. you must live somewhere in the South or educationally-deprived place.

can people annoy these joke threads. obviously this is fake because of blatant inaccuracies.

It's all a crap shoot once you're in the "possible" category. A friend of mine had a 1560, loads of credits from a top-30 liberal arts college nearby, was Valedictorian, had published a S-F novel on the internet, was great at karate, was an Eagle Scout, and wanted to major in Chinese, and he was still rejected at Princeton and Harvard-- where he was a double legacy!

I agree with fiddlefrog. No matter HOW good the EC's, once you cross that threshhold of top 10 or so colleges, EVERYTHING is a crap shoot. There are NUMEROUS cases that back up my point that THERE IS NEVER AN AUTOADMIT. Why, check out the prstats for Princeton last year and find out the accepted people, DAMN, they're just friggin amazing!

No one disagrees that HYP is extremely hard to get into. However, this particular person has as good a chance as anyone else, possibly even better.
Hoo_29, my low GPA freshman year was one of the reasons of my post, and many, many people reasurred me that my rising gpa (a 4.0UW this quarter) would help, as would my ECs. You seemed to ignore my current GPA, as if to find a reason to post a negative and demeaning reply.

Snuffles' search only reinforces my theory that you just like to demean students on this board. Why? I have no idea, is it because it makes you feel better about yourself? If this is the honest truth, try helping, it feels better;)
Yes, of course help can be "i don't think you will get in", but add a because, and maybe even some suggestions!

Right, because my suggestions a week before decisions are up are really going to make a difference. If you people don't want to know your chances, then don't ask them. I'm not going to lie or get around the question. Of course this kid has a chance at Princeton, I just think the Westinghouse thing isn't really going to get him in. Yes, I am familiar with that competition, but there are many awards out there, and frankly, it's not that special when you match everything up against the NMS, Presidential scholars, and gold medalists. HYP rejected the presidential scholar last year from my hs, and that is EXTREMELY prestigious, because only 2 people from each state can win it.

If you can't take the heat, then don't ask.

And justice, no, I am not some hick or anything, especially because I am part asian. I wonder what the results will be Friday!

i would like you to tell me one Westinghouse finalist who didn't go to his/her first choice school. i've never heard of one and i'm wondering what region you live in where the finalists aren't strong enough to go anywhere they want.

presidential scholar doesn't even go out until after early admissions, and it's based on single-sitting SATs. obviously that won't get anyone in, and same with NMSF, because there are so many of those. it's not 2 a state buddy. there were three of them at my school last year.

of course there are autoadmits. there are about twenty of them at my school for HYP. it goes the same for a lot of elite prep schools and magnets.

what results friday are you referring to?

The point of the thread was to make predictions, not to make people feel good about themselves or to play psychic.

I think decisions come out friday, unless Pton is weird.

Only 70 in the NATION are accepted to RSI. There are only 6 regional finalists in the nation for westinghouse (individual, 6 for team). Get it through your head, these are extremely prestigious awards and achievements, more so than even 2 per state.

I'm a junior, your opinions direct me, again, get a god damn clue.

70? that's a ton of people.

70 is less than the 2 per state you quoted incorrectly. You seem to be getting facts wrong left and right. Do us all a favor and stop posting at CC.

http://www.presidentialscholars.org/about_us.htm gives more info. 171 total in US. Still a big honor. Either way, it goes to prove how tough PU is.

Yes, and it proves how much harder RSI and westinghouse is.
