I wish I knew this before applications were handed in. Boston college states that you can not apply ED1 if doing EA to BC. Is there anyway of BC finding out? Im not trying to be sneaky but decisions come out next week and BC sent me an email already confirming that they are actually reviewing my application already. Please help me.
Are you trying to evaluate the risk of being caught for violating BC’s rules or are you looking for a solution to not violate them? If the latter, your simple sol’n is to shift either the EA or the ED1 application to RD before decisions are reached.
I’ll let you figure out the logical issues with those two sentences. Yes, they can find out. Some schools trade lists or talk about promising applicants. What you should do is follow the rules. Call one of those schools and ask to be moved to the RD pool.
I’d suggest you pull either the SCEA or the ED app.
Boston College has a rep who frequents this site and often responds to questions. If s/he were so inclined, it would be very easy for him/her to pull up your previous threads on this site, see that you’re a NJ male public school student, with an exact breakdown of your ACT scores and all of your extra curriculars. S/he could pass this information to the BC adcom responsible for NJ schools and they could probably pick you out pretty easily. It’s also apparent from your previous posts that the ED school is Lehigh, so if s/he has a friend in admissions there, it would be a pretty easy heads up to give.
Why risk your integrity? Make the tough choice that so many other high school students make and decide one way or the other.
There’s little chance that you’ll get into any trouble, I wouldn’t worry about it.
Although @mjrube94 makes a good point about how easy it may be for an AO officer at BC to find out who you are, the odds are low that anyone would bother given how overworked and rushed all the admissions people are right now. The last thing they are going to do is engage on some witch-hunt to figure out who you are… Nevertheless, there is the point of integrity. It probably crushes your chances to pull your EA application but it demonstrates that you are a grown-up and fully aware of the consequences of your honest mistake. Then again, given the low odds of anyone finding out, you could just let the dice roll stand and take your chances. Its up to you whether you want to stand on principle or take your chances. In life there are always decisions like this to make. Sometimes you will take the high road and sometimes you will take the low road. Its your decision.
Screw it, Im just going to pull Boston College to RD. I love Lehigh, thats why I ED1 it. I do not wanna risk my chances with Lehigh.
Good choice.
