i applied to 9 schools…4 safeties, oen of which I will never go to (my mom made me apply there), 3 match/reaches (but all crapshoots, UVA, UMich, NU) and 2 schools that i’ll never get into (BC because 50 people from my school applied there, and Columbia, my mother made me). I’m really regretting applying to all those safeties. I feel like I should have just done 2 safeties (Lehigh and BU) and then applied to more match/reach schools like Hopkins, Tufts, W&M, etc. I’m feeling really hopeless and helpless at this point and I’m thinking the chances that I don’t get into any of my three match/reaches are pretty big. Can anyone tell me if the ratio of my safeties:match/reaches is right, and if im okay?

Quit whining, you will probably get into at least one of your match/reaches (post stats?). U of M is probably a good bet.

Probabley right about not having so many safeties, but the applications are out and nothing to do now but wait, hopefully you will get into one of your schools of choice

First of all, you can only go to one college. So all you need is one acceptance from a school you would like to go to. I'd expect you'd be in at least one of Michigan, Lehigh and BU and maybe Northwestern, so you should be in pretty good shape.

reidm is right--you're only going to attend one school.

Many people only apply to one or two places (I was one of them!). While I don't think that's the greatest strategy, the fact is many people apply to just a place or two and have a wonderful college experience. And I can guarantee you that later in life, no one will care whether you got into 3 schools or 8.

I think you have a better chance at BC than UVA or Northwestern, though you have a shot at all of them...Lots of kids from my school applied to BC too but they accepted some less-than-stellar applicants.

a safety is a place where you have a 90+% chance of getting you. You only needed one real safety. But you'll be fine.

Alrighty. Northwestern is an awesome school. You only go to one college at a time. You can always transfer. Transfering is NOT bad. Wherever you graduate from, that's what your diploma says. I say you suck it up, and be happy when you get accepted to a few of your schools. Not that I know your stats, but hey, miracles happen. So good luck. And stop worrying about whether or not you applied to the right schools. There's always next year. Transfering. CC. You get my point, i'm sure.
