I-Banking & Recruiting

What top colleges land students a job in investment banking firms? Does Georgetown and Washington University send anyone to IBanking?

Yep both are recruited from.

Georgetown, definitely...I am not sure about Washington University.

Cornell, Wharton, Stern, HYP are good for I banking. Though, Cornell and Wharton are noted as the top two by recruiters.

Well then, since its easier to get into GTown as a transfer, I might go there.

GTown may not rank the highest in US News, but it gets all the recruiters and thats all you want.

if u go to washu for ibanking u will not make it :-/

im not sure if gtown is but washu was only recruited once 4 years ago

ibanking is one of those professions where it helps a lot to graduate ivy

Do you have a list of schools that are "The Holy I-Banking Colleges" so I can apply to them for transfer later on. I thought GTown was a good ibanking power house.

LoL. Gtown is heavily recruited from. Here are website proving this. I wish people in this forum read something other than US News Rankings ;):

Lazard: (If Lazard recruits from someplace you know its a ibanking powerhouse)

http://www.lazard.com/career_opportunities/campus_recruitment/index.html

Just click on Global Recruiting calender and from Undergraduates click Ibanking. Gtown is there.

Lehman Brothers:

http://www.lehman.com/careers/calendar/index_am.html

Type in the school's name.

Goldman Sachs (Top dog in ibanking)

http://www.gs.com/careers/recruiting_process/calendar/americas.html

As you see all these places are recruited by ibanks.

"im not sure if gtown is but washu was only recruited once 4 years ago" by shrek

This is false. Here it is: http://www.olin.wustl.edu/wcrc/pdf/AnnualReport.pdf

Dont know about you but I think 23% in ibanking in 2004 alone for the BBA degree is not equal to not being recruited at for 4 years ;). The average salary is also inline at 51K.

"Cornell, Wharton, Stern, HYP are good for I banking. Though, Cornell and Wharton are noted as the top two by recruiters." by SPPN

Agree on the Wharton but not on the Cornell. In fact HYP is more highly recruited at than Cornell. One way to see this is from where the top hedge funds and top boutiques and PE shops recruit from. Those are the most prestigious.

For example, at Blackstone PE considered in line with KKR undergrads exclusively come from Wharton or Harvard. No exceptions. You can check this from their profiles of employees.

I am basing this off the the number of banks that recruit from Cornell and the fact that Cornell is #2 at Goldman. Also, Lehman Bros or CSFB (I can't remember which) said that they have more Cornell alumni in their New York office than any other single school. I will agree to the fact that Cornellians are not heavily recruited by boutiqe firms, most likely because of location.

I once saw the incoming class for the derivatives and Ibanking group at CSFB and I am sure that Cornell wasnt number one or two. Lehman I have no idea. Goldman I am pretty sure no. Goldman is pretty diverse in nature although Wharton and Harvard are still the top two.

BTw the list was posted on the vault forums. Maybe someone has it now.

no comments bout stern? is stern good or bad for ibanking?

That shouldnt be a question chezo. Of course its great for ibanking!

All I can go by is what recruiters tell us. Whatever your perception of Cornell with the recruiters doesn't really matter because I know, as a Cornell student that was interviewed by many of these companies, that they do recruit quite heavily here. It is pretty much trivial to argue what position the school has within the banks. I just know it is well regarded, otherwise all these companys would not spend the money to fly a dozen employees up three or four times a year for info sessions and interviews. All these companies recruit on campus at Cornell: Citigroup, Credit Suisse First Boston, Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Nomura Securities, Wachovia, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, UBS Investment Bank, Banc of America, HSBC, JP Morgan, Bain & Company, Barclays Capital, , Bear Stearns, First Albany Capital, CIBC World Markets, Legg Mason, Deutsche Bank. I know there are many other banks out there but this is a pretty good list with all the major banks.

And yes, Stern is very good for ibanking.

No one said anything about Cornell not being a recruited school. Heck Ill be applying there. Great school, reduced tuition (I live in NY state), and good recruiting. No blows against Cornell. However, it is a little extreme to say its number two at goldman ;).

Hey, a recruiter for Goldman at one of the info sessions told me that, so I believed him. The same thing with Lehman.

Are you applying to AEM?

Yea. Are you in AEM now?
