I-Banking Salaries

Actually wharton had a better estimate than either of you. It was just a tad higher. What you posted was the base + signing. It doesn't include bonus. The top bucket this year is 80-90K. So all in, there are first year analysts making 140-150K this year. Wouldn't expect that every year tho (the deal flow was ridiculous for the most part).

Roughly $110-120 is more normal, from the sources I have been reading from.

yea.......IB.......Weird.......WOWzers

welsh> Thats why I said top bucket.

The $170K figure you hear for first-year analysts is the very top of the range. Most analysts will make between 90-120K their first year. The 170K is if you're one of the top few, in the top performing group, at one of the top banks.

I caution all of you guys though not to fall in love with the starting salaries. Frankly after you start earning it, it will feel like nothing, and if you stay in the business and do well and start earning several times more than that it still ends up feeling like nothing. Most of the people I know are bankers, hedgies, etc. and a great number of them are miserable. If you don't trully enjoy the work and not mind working long hours then the money will only be a mild comfort. Don't let the hype about Wall St. salaries fool you, just like with everything else the media only focuses on the top/most-outrageous figures. Most people on Wall St. are making comfortable salaries but are grinding away day in and day out in a job they have no passion for. It's why attrition rates are so high. It really makes you wonder why if the salaries are so much higher than any other industry at the same time it has attrition rates higher than any other industry.

Actually this year most BB banks have been reporting bonuses of 60-90K...meaning that for a first year the range can be:

Signing Bonus: 10K (average)
Salary: 60K (average - typically most pay this but I've seen cases of people coming in at up to 75)
Bonus: 60-90K (check some of the bonus thread on ibankingoasis)
Total: 130-160K

The vast majority of my friends in banking that graduated last year were within this range.
