I came to US 2 years ago...

Hi everyone just a question about foreign language. I came to US in 2007 without knowing much english. I took ESL class in my sophomore year and went up to AP english lit in junior year. do I still have to fullfill the foreign language requirement? I did not take any language class in high school, other than speaking another language at home.

I’m sure they won’t care if you get a 5 or 800 in that language (chinese?).

Check with the college/university in question. Some will waive the foreign language requirement for admission based on your fluency in your first language. Some won’t. Ask what you can do to demonstrate your proficiency in the other language(s).

Don’t forget to make sure that you will be able to graduate from your HS without a foreign language. In Maryland, there are several ways around the requirement. The rules in your state and school district may be different from ours.

thanks for the advice
my school doesn’t require me to take any language classes, so I assume it’s not a graduation requirement for me.
I’ll check with the colleges…

another question,
since I came to US as a sophomore, I don’t have like a “long-committed” activity. I started most of my ec in 10 or 11th grade. does that hurt me? diminish my “passion”???

Yes, this will diminish your passion. You can’t really love something unless you’ve been doing it since 5th grade or lower.

Honestly though, what could you do except just keep doing them at this point? Do you have a time machine that will allow you to add one year to you ECs? No? Then just continue in them and stop worrying so much.
