i can dream, right?

hey guys. i applied to cornell rd. chance me?

gpa 3.3 uw 3.7 w...:/ i think my rank is around top 30%.
sat 2010..650 cr, 680 m,680 writing. sat ii: 750 math1 and 600 physics
my common app personal statement was cute i think. it was very simple and sincere. it was about who i am.
my "why did i choose to study wat i chose to put down as my major at cornell" essay was about how i speak russian and am ukrainian and am an immmigrant and how i would love to study more russian literature because that is the major i applied for..school of arts and sciences.

i speak russian, hebrew english.
was born in israel
im a published poet. i have about 5 published poems and i added one of my poems for the extra section of the common app.
i play piano and have awards.
im involved in few clubs at school and no sports..no leadership positions though.
im more involved out of school in the commmunity. i volunteered at the local library, jcc, and hospital. also i independantly raised 1000 and donated to the make a wish foundation.

ok so i know my gpa/scores are not amazing, but would i have some chance?

You sound suspiciously like another poster here…

I would check out this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cornell-university/456369-i-m-way-too-self-confident.html

You’re not going to post some of your poems here, are you?

LOLOLOLOLOL

It’s like they are two brothers just teaming up for the fun of torturing us. LOLOL.

hahah no i know i read that and realized we were similar..but i have nothing to do w/ the kid and i’m a girl.

can people actually chance me though..lollll.

you know this entire website is almost completely pointless. ppl chancing me will in no way benefit me. i dunno why im even asking i guess just curious what others think.

your tests/grades seem a little bit lower than what some others have posted…but your ECs and other experiences are great…you’ve also got some unique things going for you. It’s prob a toss-up…but I wish you the best of luck!!

hmmmm, yeah, they are dreadfully similar.

She seems to live in reality though. You have a better chance than him.

hm ok. thanks anyone else?

no ones answering booooo

Of course you have some chance.

some chance like 50%? hahaha
or more like 2%?

hello!

gpa/rank: is this because you took easy classes or did bad in many of your classes? top 30%…how many people are at your school? and what % of your school goes to Ivies and other top 20 schools each year? that’ll help us get a better look at your stats.
your essays: i like the sound of your essays, especially since they are pointed towards what you want to major in. very nice! i think if they stand out they will be good for your application. and your cute personal statement would hopefully stand out, too.
sat scores:600’s are on the low end of the acceptees, and most of the bottom scores are URMs and athletes, and you are seemingly neither.
published poet: send in some supplements and stuff. being published sounds like a big matter. some guy from my school was also in the top 30% of my school, and he had about some similar awards (some essays published) and he got into cornell. However, this is a school that sends 20% of kids USNWR top 20 schools…out of 300
piano: whoa! a non-asian piano player. (im asian btw) if an asian person like me had this (and i do) it wouldn’t really help them. but i think it’ll help you cuz ur white!
clubs/volunteering: eek. you really should have some leadership positions. altho not having them doesn’t hurt you; i know many people who don’t have leadership positions and they got into Ivies. but that’s just my school. after all if 60 people get into top 20 schools how many leadership positions are there? however your volunteering is good!! i’m sure you emphasized that in your ECs section. that might deemphasized the fact that you have no leadership positions. :P

all in all, i say it’s a bit of a reach, and youll be counting on your ECs and your essays to get in. Does your school have grade deflation? If i had to put a percent on it…i’d say 15-20%. however, if you don’t get into cornell, there are many similarly good schools that are about on the same level as cornell, altho they are less famous. Though good luck on this application, you should be okay. Don’t stress.

And i really hope you do get in :D

YOU ARE SO SWEET peach, that was so nice of you to take the time and write all that. i appreciate it thanks!

please1 in which state do you currently live and in what year did you move to USA? assuming you live in an under-represented state like Texas/Alabama, and you came to USA in your late teen’s, i’d say you have a fair shot if you played your diversity card really well on the APP…cuz your scores are within the range of scores for admits last year…

i wish i lived in alabama or texas lol
i live in nj and i moved to the states when i was 7 so that kinda sucks..i really emphasized it in my essay/application though.esp the “why cornell” type essay. i talked about my ukrainian background and why it makes me want to study russian literature.

hey that’s cool, I live in NJ too. I wonder how many random people I actually know!

chances are slim

yea they probably areeeee :(
