Hello! I’m in the top 9% of my class (56 out of 635) and go to a semi-competitive school. I’m not sure what my unweighted GPA is since my school does it weighted which is a 106. Because of this, I can automatically get accepted into A&M. However, I feel like I’d fit in much better at UT. I understand that they’re both huge schools but I don’t feel like I’d fit into the cowboy boots and hats of A&M. I also feel as though UT is more liberal which could also be more fitting. I’d also prefer UT because their YoungLIfe program seems to be a lot larger and thats something i’d love to continue after starting that in high school. On the June ACT I received a 24 (22 on english was lowest, 26 on math wast the highest) I feel like if I retake it I could at least get a 26. I have lots of extracurriculars such as Student Council Parliamentarian, unity club, NHS, SHS, Behavior Management committee, cross country, among others.
The point is, do I have the slightest chance at getting through UT’s holistic review? I’m sorry this was completely scattered.
There are too many unknown variables in your post to give you a solid answer. Your ACT score is a little low and you did not provide your intended major. I don’t view A&M as a land of cowboys but I would agree with you that they are more conservative than Texas. I would need to know your major but from what you have presented my guess is you would be capped.
Either economics or finance
Finance is super competitive and frankly don’t see you getting in the business school. Economics is the fall back for most folks trying to get into the business program. If your offered the Cap program and complete it, you would enter UT under the college of liberal arts. I see many kids who are just outside of UT’s automatic admissions requirements but are not really sold on A&M. Many of these kids go OU, Arkansas, LSU and Ole Miss. because they get merit aid that makes up for the out of state tuition. For example Arkansas has a non-resident tuition scholarship that you would qualify for if you can get a 24 on your ACT. http://scholarships.uark.edu/nrta/index.php
I only bring this up because their are many students facing who are facing the exact same decision you are who seldom think about going to school out of state. It’s just another option you need to add to the equation.
