I can only list 5 awards. Which of these should I list?

Emperor Science Award
Commended National Merit
Principal’s Honor Roll (but colleges can infer this from my grades can’t they…)
AP Scholar with Distinction
2nd place in state/regional science fair
Excellence in biology (which was a school level award…given to me by my biology teacher)

Please let me know which five you would list and in order of importance! Thanks!
Amber.

Take out honor roll, they see your grades.

You can combine your school awards in one line - so excellence in biology and honor roll can go together. If you have to leave one out, I’d also leave out honor roll.

okay ill do that! Thanks! ALso would order would you suggest for the others? @momofsenior1 @racereer

Its from most important to least important…

Yes, I would list in order of importance.

Try to understand what’s important and what “order of importance” means. Unless they offer NMF merit awards, that’s based on PSAT and they aren’t concerned with that test. If you choose to include it, make that your own decision. If you submit your AP scores, they know what gets Scholar awards.

In the past, CC posters have suggested a hierarcy: national, then area or local, then hs.

Do what you like. But please, try to understand. You want to be in control of your own app, you want to know, whether you win or lose, that this was your best effort. Not crowdsourcing.

  1. Commended National Merit
  2. AP Scholar with Distinction
  3. Emperor Science Award
  4. 2nd Place State/Regional Science Fair
  5. Principal’s Honor Roll with Excellence in Biology

Just a suggestion. I am unfamiliar with “Emperor Science Award” but reads as though you were the sole recipient.

emperor science is only awarded to 100 students in the nation…so I was thinking that should go first

Great ! Congratulations !

  1. Emperor Science Award (awarded to just 100 out of 5,000 entrants nationally)

I think that you should include additional info. about the award if it is succinct.

The Emperor Science Award prize is an independent mentored research project with a cancer researcher. More helpful to your chances than just listing the award as one of 5 awards on your application would be submitting the research paper or abstract you produced as a supplement to your application along with a supplemental recommendation from the researcher.

my mentor wasn’t available for a long time due to personal reasons…so I don’t think he would be able to provide a recommendation. does it look bad if I just list the award?

List the 5 that are the most important to you

Shouldn’t hurt if you just list the award. Would help more if you can show what you did with the opportunity.
