I cannot take Physics and Calculus...for Engineering Major

In school because my school does not have Physics at all and Calculus conflicts with AP Literature. I really want to take AP Lit but I am going into engineering most likely so if I miss Calculus that would be bad.
I found a pre-college class at UPenn that offers Calculus but it is a review class and it is not guranteed admission.
I also have not taken Chemistry yet and I will be taking it senior year.

It looks really bad because Cornell Engineering requires Calculus, Physics, Biology and Chemistry.

What should I do? Should I give up AP Lit?
What about Physics?

Can you take Calculus at your CC over the summer? If not, as much as I hate telling you this, it probably would make sense to drop AP Lit and take Calculus. If your school does not offer physics (which is honestly pretty shocking to me), and you can not take it over the summer, then I would have your guidance counselor include the fact that your school does not offer physics in any capacity in her write-up so that it will not be held against you.

Also, just kind of a side question, how do you know you want to be an engineer if you have yet to take an advanced math course, physics or chemistry? Not trying to dissuade you or anything, as someone who is undecided with regards to a major/career I respect people who have their lives together, just kind of curious.

Well I was just genuinely interested…lol.

Cornell Engineering might require those as part of its program, but nowhere does it say that Freshman applicants need those courses. If your high school doesn’t offer physics, then you can’t do much about that - taking it online or at a CC would be great to show interest.

Darn it I don’t think my CC offers it lol. AP Lit is not really important right? Not going to a major like that. I might drop AP lit…;D

NOO THERE’S CALCULUS SUMMER HOMEWORK.

Honestly, @butterfreesnd‌ has a vital point. If you haven’t taken physics or calculus (or even chemistry), how do you know you like engineering? Engineering is a very difficult field and a solid knowledge of advanced math and science–basically physics and calculus–is vital to thrive in that job area. If you’re not going to take calculus or physics and you really are interested in this field, I highly recommend you interview some engineers or try to shadow somebody. You might find out you don’t like it at all.

That’s a rather low quality school that does not offer physics at all, and puts calculus and the presumably highest level of English at the same time so that students cannot take both.

In addition, how will adcoms know you are serious and prepared if there’s no physics or calc? And all those other applicants with great grades and ECs did? Think strategically. Plus, who’s going to write your LoRs and how are your STEM ECs?

My school is a magnet school but it musically focused.
I am going to take English Honors plus Calculus (My senior year is the first year they’ll ever have honors…)
I am seeing if there is a physics class at my local CC, but if I don’t have it, it is not my fault.
My school only offered AP Bio this year so I took it.

If you want to study engineering, calculus should be a priority over ap literature.

Right, and even if I don’t study engineering, there’s no use for me to take AP Lit besides it being an AP class.
Anyways, I might be able to take Physics at my local CC if I pass the placement test :)

If you want engineering calculus and physics must take precedence over AP Literature. Perhaps talk to someone in the English department to see if you could do AP Literature as an independent study, do that at a CC, or if work could be added on to a regular 12th grade literature class to prepare you for the AP.

@happy1, there is no regular lit class lol.
I’ll be fine without AP lit if I’m doing engineering or business right?

Drop AP lit from your schedule and take calc. Try to find an online class (or other alternative way) to take physics. Best of luck!

Okay so the schedule has turn worse.
I cannot take AP Stat too if I take English Honors
I want to take regular English so I can take AP Stat but the class is full…

To compensate it, I’m taking classes at Penn, one in July (Biomedical, applied for and got in), and in September

Here’s a link, which one would benefit me? (Business or Engineering)

deleted

Or I can take both AP classes and do Calc and Physics at my local CC but I don’t know if I can take Calc there due to my schedule…

Looks like I’m gonna make my teacher mad…I’m going to try to take Calculus at my local CC and take both AP classes…no AP classes is bad.
