I can't afford to send my test scores.

I’m currently estranged from my parents. When all of this happened (approximately a year ago), I dropped out of college, and now I’m trying to go back. However, I’m struggling to pay all my bills and student debt on a basic, minimum wage job, and the deadline for transfer applications at my city’s university is rapidly approaching. I simply just don’t have the disposable money (at least right now) to send in my SAT and AP scores.

Honestly, I have no idea what to do right now. I want to go back to college more than anything, but I can’t even finish my application without these documents, and without them, I’ll have to wait months until the spring semester. Is there anything I can do?

First, you don’t have to send AP scores unless you are accepted and want to use those scores for credit. So all you have to send is SAT. I don’t see anyway around that.

I know AP scores aren’t required - sorry about that! I guess that fact just didn’t register in my mind as I was stressing out. I’d like to send them, since I got most of my prerequisites out of the way just from AP courses, but I’ll (hopefully) have the money by then.

That said … damn. I was really hoping that there was some sort of waiver available for that. I suppose I’ll just have to wait until spring.

If your current college accepted your APs for credit the your new school will likely use your first college’s transcript to do so as well. You still need to figure out how to pay for the SAT/ACT scores. They might have a waiver for that. Have your checked?

How much are the fees?

^^ please see the College Board website for costs of sending fees. Also for availability of waivers.

Check to see if you can get a fee waiver from College Board.

Each college sets its own AP policy, so check to which APs the place you are transferring to will give you placement or credit for. If it won’t award you credit for your APs, then don’t send the scores.

To send sat scores is $11.25

A little late, sorry - I just logged back onto this account, but I have to clarify.
@turqluv It has been more than a year since I graduated high school, so it’s actually fifty.

On the bright side, I think I finally worked it out. I guess I got lucky - a lot of my coworkers quit unexpectedly, so I ended up getting a lot more hours than I’m used to at work. It’s still tough, but at least for this pay period, I’ll have enough. Thank you to everyone who responded!
