I can't believe I'm making a "chances" thread.

I know that most students on here are too disgustingly modest for their own good, which makes me feel bad for posting here with my low standardized test scores and high reach colleges...but try anyway, I definitely another's opinion.

Asian-American female (dual citizenship in Thailand), first generation (although my mom did get her associates in a CC), very competitive private high school.

I'm hoping that my essay is really good (I'm a fairly strong essay writer). My guidance department won't allow us to see our teacher recommendations, but I'm assuming they're good.

Academics:
GPA: 3.70 unweighted (There are at least 4 of my classes that have significantly weighed down my GPA for school, but most colleges factor them out of the GPA, so I'm unsure about my weighted GPA)
Class Rank: school doesn't rank - estimated at top 25%
APs: Currently taking Art History and English Literature. 3 in US Government and 5 in US History.

Scores:
SAT I Math: 660
SAT I Critical Reading: 650
SAT I Writing: 670
ACT: 30
SAT II Literature: 620
SAT II Math Level 2 (IIC): 630
SAT II French: 580
All tests were taken once.

Academic Accomplishments:
Member of the National Society of High School Scholars (ok, that's nothing special)
Honor Roll (9, 10, 11)
Delaware County Science Fair - 2nd place in Zoology (10)
Delaware Valley Science Fair - honorable mention in Zoology (10)
Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science - 1st awards in regional and state competition (10)

In-school activities:
French Club (9, 10, 11, 12)
Multicultural Club (9, 10, 12)
Literary Magazine - contributor, art editor, layout editor, editor-in-chief (11, 12)
Students for Justice (11, 12)
Drama Production - stage crew, lighting and sound engineer (11, 12)
Hi-Q - academic quiz competition, official team member (12)

Community service:
cat shelter (30+ hours)
big sister program (18+ hours)
nursing home (12+ hours)
pregnancy support center (6 hours)
The + means that I'm still volunteering there and earning more hours...any way to indicate this in the application/r

i can't believe it's not butter...

JH - reach
CM = match
Cornell = reach
Tufts = slight reach/match
Upenn = reach
Swarthmore = reach
UD = match/safety

Agree with you'll see except I think CM is a high match and Tufts is a reach.

How is Carnegie Mellon a match? Unfortunately, the OP's scores are quite low.

Yes, I agree - that's why I said high match - but it cuold also be a low reach

I hope I'm a damn good essay writer. :P

How is a 1980 on the SAT "low"? Or a 30 ACT? A 30 is right at the average for CMU. The SAT IIs could be a bit higher, but the other scores seem fine.

For schools that don't require the SAT or SAT IIs, do you think it would be at my advantage to withhold those scores and send only the ACTs?

The ACT of 30 is OK for most schools however 1310 is low (CMU avg about 1390). Coupled with 25% rank and lowish (I mean for this level, not in general) SAT 2's, all schools are reaches (rather significant reaches imo) except Delaware.
