I Can't Choose Between the W's

Hello everyone. This is my first post, and I'm desperate.

I have a decision to make and I'm scared to death. I have to decide by the 15th of May where I want to attend.

I have my choices narrowed down to Walsh University and Wittenberg University (both in Ohio), and I am having the hardest time deciding. I even got an extension past the May 1 deadline so I could have more time to choose.

I've tried the pro and con list and everything. All signs keep pointing me to Wittenberg, and that is where I really want to go. Unfortunately, it is three hours away from home, and if I hate it, I'm trapped there.

Walsh, on the other hand, is about 15 minutes from home. I'm really close with family, and they all want me to go to Walsh so I remain close by. However, I don't really like the campus, but I've heard both are academically strong.

I have this urge to get out on my own, but at the same time I'm scared to death of hating college and being trapped from my support group. I only know one person going to Wittenberg, but the people who go there seem nice.

Does anyone have any advice on choosing? Anyone kow anything about both schools and have person experience? I am having serious problems.......

Any help would be great!

Even if you wind up disliking Wittenberg, you would still be only 3 hours from home. That is not too bad.

Plus, from what I have heard, Wittenberg is a much better school.

On top of that, I think if you have any urge at all to get out on your own, college is the time to do it. Wittenberg sounds like your best bet.

3 Hours isn't that bad. Many kids go across country, where they ARE 'trapped there'. 3 hours, you could still go there on some weekends.

That's very good advice. Afterall, three hours really isn't that much, and I already expected to be homesick for the first few weeks anyways.

I decided that I won't go home for at least the first three weeks. I figure I have to get oriented and learn to be on my own.

Did anyone have extreme homesickness? Did you get over it alright?

Is cost part of the consideration? Walsh is significantly less expensive than Wittenburg ($39,000 vs. $18,000). If you were to commute it looks like the difference might be close to $30,000 ($120,000 for four years). Perhaps this contributes to your family's bias towards Walsh, even if it is unspoken. Have you had a heart-to-heart converation with your family regarding the financial implications of your decision? I agree with the post above that Wittenburg is generally regarded as the better school, but in some situations the question has to be asked if it is $120,000 better.

It's not really a money issue because my scholarships and grants cover the costs for both.

From what they say, they want me to go to Walsh because they want me close to home.

I decided to post a little update.

I chose Witt, and love it here! The classes are great, and so are my professors. The campus is beautiful, and the people are so friendly. It's a perfect choice for me.

Thanks to everyone who commented. It really helped me get through a pretty tough time.

thats great, congrats on picking witt. i know a kid who is a freshman this year on the lacrosse team, and have a friends who just committed to the lacrosse team for next year. its an awesome school.
