I can't concentrate on anything - I think I need help

I'm a freshman in college.
I attend the college that I really wanted to go to, everyone here is really nice and easy to get along with. Parties are awesome and I even just got into the college acapella group that is one of the best in the nation. Here's the problem though - I can't concentrate on anything. I used to love calculus back in high school, but now it's just meh. It takes me hours to get started on my homework, and even after I get started I start either daydreaming or searching for youtube videos. I'm a mech. engineering major, but I don't even know if I want to do this. I'm not really stressed, maybe I just need a little more time (though it's already been like two weeks) to get settled in. I mean even in high school I had concentration problems, but it was never this bad. Maybe I have like ADHD or something?

Try not studying in your room. Take your backpack to dinner and keep right on going to the library so you don’t get distracted in the dorm. Turn off the internet access on your computer when you get to the library. Reward yourself with internet access or a snack or a little social media time when you are done with an assignment, but set your phone alarm and go back to work when you are done. Or… work straight thru until done, THEN go back to your dorm to hang out, play cards, socialize, whatever. You don’t have ADHD – you have poor study habits. But you can fix that pretty easily.

If you are not sure about your major, that is a different issue. If you have another major in mind, see if you can take a class or two in in next semester. But you still need to do well in the classes you are taking now.

Hi Jellyman :)!

My father was a mechanical engineering major, but he still managed juggle in his extracurricular activities. Just saying. Anyway, I think you need to be in some place where you can think of what you really want to do. Maybe the reason why you can’t concentrate is because you think of many things and you don’t know which are the activities you want to prioritize.

Why don’t you plan out the activities that you want to do and spare enough time for each activity? That way, you can be able to focus yourself to a certain task within that period of time.

Does this help? I hope it does :)!

All the best!
