heyy,

The deadline is coming soon and I can't decide which school to go too. The schools I got accepted to are the same rankings.
- Mercersburg Academy
- NMH
- Tabor Academy

Where should I attend?
Have any one went to these schools revisit yet?

Mercesburg is lower tier, Tabor is good if you like Marine Biology and stuff and NMH is a really good underrated prep school. That’s all the advice I can give since Idk a lot about these schools lol.

If I had to make this choice, I would go to NMH. I just like the school a lot.

Same…Bump 10 Char !

MA is fabulous! I went to campus when my d’s swim team swam their team. It had a good feeldefinitely beautiful countryside all around this campus! We did not consider it because it was too far away (I limited my d to a school within a 2 hour radius).

One of my d’s teachers used to work there. She spoke highly of the teachers and kids there.

Clearly there is an antiquated New England boarding school vibe going one at CC. True, large numbers of boarding schools are in New England, but that does not make a school better. It is what that school has to offer you, and how that fits with what you think you might want to accomplish over the next four years.

From what I know, I see these three on a similar tier if that is a factor; however, I think these three schools are very different from each other. I wonder which school you want to spend 4 years of your life atnot which one will sound better when you tell people where you go to school.

I say you go to M’burg. It’s extremely underrated and is not ‘lower tier’. NMH is in the middle of nowhere and the closest town is l-a-m-e. Tabor…eh even in the VB they said they had like no free time .

rad I thought you liked NMH?

I really really like Mercersburg and think it’s a great school with a very friendly vibe. My son liked it a lot too. It is rather remote and I think that was the deciding factor against it for my son. Driving an hour to get on a plane to go to school is fine; driving an hour to get on a plane and then a bus for another hour was a bit too much when he had other options.

NMH had a big appeal to my son as well. I think he really liked the block scheduling. Looking back, it was probably a bit too sporty for him.

Had he had to chose between NMH and M’burg, he probably would have gone for M’burg, even though NMH is one of the closest to our home to which he applied. I have no doubt that he would have been happy and received a great education at either. But my son my be nothing like you so take the above for what it’s worth. It’s really all about YOU and what YOU want.

I know nothing about Tabor because we didn’t even visit.

NMH has a huge population of int’l kids compared to other BS.

I’d choose…M’burg? But idk much about either school.

I dont know if you play any sports, but M’burg is four hours away from all the schools they play, so its an eight hour round trip which can be rough haha

I got in to both NMH and M’burg, if it were me I would choose NMH but thats just me you mainly have to deicide on which one you feel most at home at.

are u going to the revisits of these schools?

NMH is simply amazing. I have two very pleased sons who attended and we, as parents, were/are completely in awe of their experience. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask. I cannot comment on your other two options, as I am not famililar with them.

The problem that I have with NMH is their budget, it was literally slashed and because of that they had to reject/waitlist a lot of good applicanta but all in all it’s an amazing school.

swissbirt: have you visit NMH before? I live in Asia and I was planning to visit the school but the flood is blocking the roads :S So i am not sure if I can go anymore… thats why i can’t decide! I applied tabor because I love marine biology, Mburg is a good school but they don’t have a chinese teacher, they have a japanese teacher to teach chinese. NMH sounds lyk a good school and many things to do however, it is SOO far from the airport. What do you mean by the low budget and how they reject applicants?

sandwindsun and neatoburrito: Thanks for the information I visited Mburg before and it has GREAT facilities and the buildings are all new. As ruthie said, traveling for sport competitions take too long because other schools are far away… What do you think?

rad: yeah, i thought you like nmh… what happened? So did you get ur F/A? I hope you did :)

bookluver: I visited mburg but not tabor and nmh… i’m not sure if i’m gonna be able to visit because of the flood in new england.

i like NMH, i just thought you needed some more cons, b/c all ppl give are pros btw, the flood was more in EM, so Tabor=No. Deerfield was fine so NMH should be.

o and NMH is right up 91 from Bradley Airport, you can get there in lk an hr or so

so tabor is like flooded?! :S
i heard nmh and deerfield is okay, but the roads going to the school arent…
but i don’t know!
you think i should call the skl and ask if i’m able to go visit?

Rad-in-Plaid, I can’t believe you!!! You just totally dissed NMH :'(

Oh, and LadyLuck, I think you should choose NMH over all the other schools :D

well it rained a lot over there and Tabor is like RIGHT on the ocean so I’m assuming so :/

The roads to NMH and Deerfield are absolutely fine. They are both just a few miles off of a major highway (I-91), secondly we have driven back and forth to NMH three times in the past week (including yesterday) - and we come the “back” way. Roads are 100% fine, campus is dry, baseball game at NMH yesterday.

swisbrit…NMH is actually doing very well financially - in better shape than most because of two things:

The sale of the Northfield campus which effectively puts 1 million back in their pocket every year, and

The most successful fundraising campaign in the school’s history (which will come to a close this summer and has already far exceeded the goal).

It is not unusual for NMH to waitlist students for FA. They still admit over 40% on FA, which is more than most schools except for a handful. The waitlisted people are those who needed pretty much full scholarships. Those are the “named” scholarships of which there aren’t many and these are given to the most desireable candidates (i.e. excellent grades, test scores, interview, essay, ec’s AND a hook of some sort, be it in the athletics, arts, etc.).
