So i just talked my advisor( i never liked her she always seem like she dfgaf) but anyways she told me today i cant declare my major and i have to wait 2 years to get back into the school of business to declare again all because when i transfered to this school i thought i was already in my major but i wasnt but by the time they told me this my gpa had slipped past a 2.5 which is the min to declare, i had got an extension before to declare but i still didnt get that required gpa now im being told i gotta switch majors to something else, problem is there is nothing else i wanna major in except information systems and now i cant do that, i already work in IT so i have the experience in that field already so i think its dumb to major in something else. i just feel like my options are pretty much psychology or economics(in the school of humanties) but both of those majors are worthless, how am i gonna get a job when i graduate now with those 2 degrees? Even if i do major in one of those i would probably absolutely have to go to graduate school. The only schools that interest me for that would be either NYU, UCLA or USC but i feel like those are long shots but the thing im worried about is my undergraduate degree. Im not gonna lie i do so much better in sociology and psychology classes i actually do enjoy those imo they make me think but i wouldnt want to work in that and theres no money in that plus i think everyone would agree with me that those are the easiest majors in college anyway. I just dont know what to do with life right now. I always planned on majoring in IT then landing a job in IT security. Would IT companies take me seriously with a major thats not in IT?

What are you doing wrong? That is a horrible GPA. None of those schools would take you. Business isn’t that hard…

There’s no point in doing something you do good in unless it’s even remotely employable. If you majored in those subjects you’d have to go to graduate school, but your GPA is too low for that already. I mean, economics could work out for you. But you need to get your GPA up and in a big way. I only have a ~3.2 GPA in an Applied Math major and that’s even bad news for employers I feel like.

Pull your GPA up by studying your butt off and making good grades in whatever classes you can. Demonstrate you can handle college. Get into your supposed major. Graduate.

Looks like you already have an IT job, which is proof that some IT employers will hire people without bachelor’s degrees in business or IT.

If you want a stronger technical background applicable to IT work, consider taking the following courses from the CS department to supplement whatever major you choose:

Introductory CS courses

Operating systems

Networks

Databases

They will have more “theory” and more programming assignments, but the knowledge and skills gained will help you adapt to new technologies and solve difficult problems more easily than more IT people.

The only thing you didn’t address is why you are keeping yourself from your desired major by having sub-minimum grades. If you had achieved the necessary grades, you wouldn’t be in this situation.

Did the advisor change the requirements only as they apply to you? The advisor isn’t blocking you from the major, the required prerequisites are. And as an adult, it was up to you to know the requirements and make sure you met them.

Do ya’ll think i can still get a job In IT as a econ major with just 2 years experience under my belt when i graduate? i always look at job requirements and they always say "bachelors degree in IT or related. econ is related to that so i feel like that would rule me out the book, will certs make me a more competitive candidate?
