So my admissions confirmation with the check should be arriving within the next 12 hours @ UVa...however, i'm trying to do my housing application but it asks me for my University ID everywhere...i don't have one! (i think) ...well UVa haven't sent me anything since my admissions package which arrived a week ago in this country...how do i sign up for housing and fill in my housing agreement, options etc.. please help! :(

in terms of housing, the first year application won’t be available until May 1st.

[University of Virginia - Housing Division :: First-Year Frequently Asked Questions](http://www.virginia.edu/housing/faq.php?faq_id=fy)

So I wouldn’t worry too much at this point about housing.

To check if you have been assigned an ID, go to the UVa website ( [University of Virginia Home Page](http://virginia.edu/) ) and use the people search function towards the right. Search your name and if you have been assigned an ID, it will show up. From there, you can activate it by going here:

[Activate Your Student Computing Accounts](http://www.itc.virginia.edu/students/accounts/)

and following the instructions. See you in the fall!

Your UVa Computing ID and your University Student ID are not one and the same. They are two distinct identities, which are used in different ways for various purposes.

Some University systems still use/accept your Social Security Number for ID purposes (the SSN used to be your Student ID), but the school is phasing out use of the SSN and replacing it with a 9 digit numerical identification number (e.g. 123456789).

And then there are the different passwords for use with various computer based systems. Now that’s where the real fun begins – trying to learn and remember your passwords.

Welcome to College Life. It all starts here. Examples: lcd4n; p%bgldX8; s?Dyktw2?

And you thought AP Calculus was tough ….. You haven’t seen anything yet!

thanks a lot for the input! ![]()
^^lol…i love calculus :)

with my luck, p%bgldX8 will be mine.

The eight character password goes with your UVa Computing ID. It is assigned to you when you receive your Computing ID. Turning it into an acronym can make it easier to learn. For example, p%bgldX8 might stand for: puppies % british gal loves dogs X 8.

You get to create the nine character password, which is used with the University’s Integrated Student Information System (ISIS for short). It’s easier to remember if you use a spin-off of your eight digit Computing ID, or make another acronym. When I made up the above password (s?Dyktw2?), I was thinking of: so? Do you know the way 2 (UVa)?

Of course, to make things more fun, all passwords are Case Sensitive.

and of course the worst part is that after 4 years here I can only know my password when I sit at a computer and type it out… My hands have it memorized while my brain has no idea what it actually is. All those capitals and equals signs or whatever. ;)

Mastering linear transformations in R^3 = horribly frightening

I shudder to think of R^4.

umm..there’s still no news from their website..i searched my name…and nothing!..its May2nd now…should i be calling them in the next few days to make sure??

I sent my deposit on April 26th and still haven’t heard back

this is really annoying..i got my bro (who is a 2nd yr at UVa) to call the ITC guys…they said i wasn’t on their database…they told him to call the OUA..he did…and they said that i shouldn’t need it before orientation blah blah blah…they knew nothing..they told him to call orientation…so he did..and they simply didn’t answer…when i checked my application status it said ‘Deposit Received and Processed’..and the i get all this bull from UVa.. what’s going on?? :s … :(

I sent mine in on April 4 and got my book around the 14th. Just to give you a sense of the lead time.

Remember that the vast majority of deposits arrive this week. The staff works as quickly as it can to log the deposits. From there, other offices need to send off information about computer IDs, orientation, etc.

brkr, with thousands of students, current and incoming, to take care of, some offices might not provide you with information as quickly as you want it. You’ll get your information with plenty of time to spare before you have to be registered for orientation, which is the next big step in the process.

I found myself on the search engine and I found my computing ID but how can I get my password?

I even went on https://quiz.people.virginia.edu/rcq.fcgi to activate my computing ID but when I entered my info (last name, date of birth, and SSN), it said “Authentication Failed”

That’s a sign your ID hasn’t been processed. I’d advise you to call.

Guys and Gals:
As Dean J said, the University is faced with processing a significant number of accepted student deposits right now. With all due respect, you folks need to sit back and relax, and let things run their normal course. You will receive all the information you need in due time, well ahead of when it is needed to register for New Student Orientation. No worries; you can trust us on that.

thanks fo the input!..the thing is..we can’t register for housing without our IDs…we can’t even get the application..and being an internation american, mail takes ages to get to the USA…and it’s not a postmark deadline..i remember reading tht it has to be there by the end of May :(

i got my id!..and activated it
…and my name now appears on the search thing
…but, do any of you guys have the housing application for incoming first year undergraduates…cause when i try and log-into housing, it says “You were not found in our database.
Please try again in a few days as new names are added to the database frequently.”?? …thanks for the input in advance! :)

Are we supposed to receive the whole package regarding ID#, housing, registration, and orientation etc in mail instead of searching your name through UVA web to get those infomation?

in the e-mail they sent me, they said i should be receiving mail within the next few days (7 days) …so i guess it should contain that info?
