my dorm wont let me briing any halogen lamps or bulbs, and i cant find any fluorescent lamps or bulbs anywhere~ ive looked at linens n things, bed bath and beyond...anyone know where i can find them?

Can't you just use regular incandescent lamps and bulbs? Oh, and Home Depot and other home improvement depots have large selection of lamps.

Personally, I'm bring a three light tree lamp--doesn't take up too much space and can provide a good amount of light.

im looking for a desk lamp kinda thing...i dont want to bring something huge. what are incandescent lamps/bulbs? how are they diff from halogen?

Incandescent bulbs are just the normal, run of the mill light bulbs.

Halogens are supposed to last longer--but they get really hot and can be a fire hazard, so that's why many colleges don't allow them in the dorms.

bed bath and beyond have these super cute lamps with built in organizer bottoms that come in 4 or 5 colors and only cost 10 bucks. plus they give off a good amount of light.

i suggest the tree-type lamps, or whatever you call them. last summer, i also couldn't find a non-halogen lamp, and the salesperson helping us at bed bath and beyond suggested getting one of the five-bulb "tree" lamps and putting it near my desk. this worked perfectly - i often used a couple of the bulbs for my desk (pointed them downward), and the rest were used to light up the room (point upward). mine is really colorful, so it brightened up the room and sometimes served as a conversation starter. all for 20 bucks, too ;)

lol your school would hate me -I have over 2500 watts of halogen lights about 4 feet away from me --off for the moment of course, but i had them all on earlier today as I'm filming a short film.

There are also desk lamps with floerescent bulbs. A lot of them that I have seen lately have full-spectrum flourescent bulbs which have great light that is supposed to be like sunlight. You might have to look in a craft type store.
