I can't go to my SPOP dklsjflsdkjflsdkfj.

UCI withdrew my admission because they never received my final high school transcript. Balls. However, I mailed a pretty damn convincing/teary appeal and sufficient evidence that I did ask for all the required documents to be sent on time, so I think I have a very high chance of being admitted again. The problem is that I'm supposed to go to my SPOP on August 20th. Even if the Appeals Committee does let me back in, I would probably find out about that way after the SPOP is over (they said that they usually come to a decision in 1-3 weeks). How the hell would I register my classes and stuff if I can't go to SPOP? SERIOUSLY. BALLS.

There wouldn't be a problem if I had just signed up for an earlier SPOP, but I really wanted to go to it with a friend, but now I won't even have that opportunity. ( ´,_ゝ`)

Also, I called OARS, and the woman said that I would have to ask for special accommodations regarding my housing and classes. ****, man. I'm not some foreign animal. Fgsfds. Freshmen whose admission cancellations are removed don't have guaranteed housing. I hate my bad luck (and sheer laziness, but let's ignore that OHOHOHOHO~).

If you don't want to wade through my eyesore of a post, here's my question: if I don't go to my SPOP, how can I register my classes for Fall 2010, and is there any alternative to the SPOP program that I can possibly attend?

Err, whoops. I just looked at the SPOP FAQ, and I guess I have to fill out a form for an exception. I guess that’s the answer I was looking for. Still, no matter what happens, I just wasted $180 signing up for the SPOP thing. That’s really a lot of money… Gahh, I’m such an idiot.

ANYWAY, DOUBLE-POSTING IS SUPER AWKWARD~

What if you went to Spop anyway (since you already paid for it) and then went to check on your appeal in person (a few tears won’t hurt). Do they have your transcripts now?

Sorry this happened. Getting housing is the least of your worries (I think they’ll have plenty of housing though).

I drove to UCI LIKE THE FIST OF THE NORTH STAR and shoved my appeal RIGHT IN THEIR FACE. YEAHHH. Sheesh, I think they have like 3 copies of my transcripts now (one that arrived late, one in my appeal packet, and one mailed in again by my high school).

They told me that there’s no way I can make it to SPOP (also, no refunds FFFF), but there will be a later session for the people whose appeals are accepted. Meh, it’s better than nothing.

You need to tell them that you’re going to sue them for distress and flawed terms of contract if you already sent in your transcript before July 15 and THEY didn’t receive it. That’s what I did and they accepted my appeal right away. I also went to SPOP even though they told me not to.

Haha, that’s awesome. Suing is totally the AMERICAN way. I love it.

Well, I did pester a bunch of OARS people on the phone for about an hour. I told them exactly what was in my appeal packet, and they said that my appeal will definitely be accepted. They told me that I still shouldn’t go to SPOP, though. Screw them. I’m still going, because I paid a lot of money for that crap.

Now I really am tempted to call UCI to threaten to sue them! (゚∀゚) (Hurr hurr, there are three “to’s” in that sentence.)

Just go to the SPOP anyway! :D

^ i agree. try to go to spop anyways

Wow. My appeal got accepted in 2 days. Σ(゚Д゚) That must be a new record! I’m back in the system even before my SPOP starts. Damn, I’m so relieved.

Hmm… even though they canceled my reservation, I guess it would be okay for me to attend at this point. Ahh, I feel good~ This is better than taking a huge dump! (´∀`)

So very happy for you!

that’s great news! I too was worried about my highschool sending the transcript (they were never really reliable) but they did send it. maybe because i sent my request right after they announced it was time. but anyways i wanted to tell you that SPOP is helpful in getting you acquainted with UCI and if you’re outgoing getting to know a few people but going to SPOP and not being able to enroll in classes makes it almost useless! MAKE SURE that your enrollment window will be open the time you attend! im not sure if it will still be open for you as they canceled your reservation. you should call. and tip bring a laptop with wifi because i did not have enough time to sign up in the short time they gave us and had to wait the next day. also about joining in the other activities if you can’t check in, they don’t check anything you can just join any group you want. i suggest you follow your major. the only thing that not checking in will ruin is you getting lunch and having a room assignment but as you were saying you’re going with a friend, they can get lunch for you and you can sneak in their dorm and sleep. lol. they don’t check anything. i actually left for lunch and came back - no one said a thing. you’re an adult now, i guess.

Glad to hear everything worked out! And I’m digging your smilies, haha.

what do they look for in appeals? what did you have to talk about exactly? i submitted my appeal and it got denied yesterday :frowning: i found out from one of my friends that it’s most likely because I talked about the wrong things and should have stuck with defending myself against the reason why i got my admissions withdrawn…they also told me that you can appeal more than once?? does anyone know, because now that i know my mistake, i’m more than willing to write a second one. Also, does it really make a big impact on their decision if you go to irvine to talk with them personally?

Wow, I’m really sorry for you. ;_; Why was your admission withdrawn? Was it also because a document was sent late? If you want, I can send you my appeal letter, though I don’t know if it’ll be very useful.

Basically, in your appeal letter, you have to sound REALLY sorry (like, pathetically sorry) and, yes, you have to focus on providing a legitimate argument for your case. Don’t jam in too much fluff about your personal achievements or something. You have to do a thorough job in convincing the Appeals Committee that whatever went wrong was not (completely) your fault.

Although the appeal letter is crucial, I think what really got the committee’s attention was the “supporting document(s)” they asked for; in my case, that was a letter from my high school. I told my VP about my predicament and she said she’d write a letter for me explaining the unfortunate situation (it was pretty much my school’s fault, anyway…) to UCI. So… if you’re going to send in a second appeal (which I’m not sure you can do; call OARS first), then definitely try to snag some sort of apologetic letter from the staff at your high school. I honestly think that’s the only reason my appeal was accepted so quickly, since colleges don’t want to mess with you when you have the support of an official educational establishment.

No, it does not help your appeal case if you personally go to UCI. I only did that so my stuff would get there as soon as possible. I did try to get someone to talk to, but the OARS people wouldn’t let me, so all I was able to do was turn in my packet. |:

Thank you!! i’d like to hear your letter just to see what direction you went with, but my case is very different. i got a D in physics both semesters but all my other grades were A’s and B’s. i even improved my gpa a little second semester, but they basically said it was because i had a D for that class second semester which counts as multiple D’s. it’s not like i had a D in 2 different classes, and i was even taking another science class which i got a B+ in. I was going through emotional and family struggles which was partially why i got that grade and that information is what i neglected from my first appeal. i basically went off in the wrong direction with my appeal. before i sent it i emailed a counselor from irvine asking what i needed and should talk about to help me have a strong appeal, but they never emailed back which is why i want to talk with one of them personally. i really worked harder second semester and if they accepted me with a D in physics from the fall semester, i just dont understand why i had it withdrawn for spring when i maintained and improved my other grades. if anyone knows anything else i can do, please help!!

Okay! I sent my letter to you. Ah, it’s a shame that we had to appeal due to different circumstances, though. The “new and compelling information” they want really has to be amazing. I definitely think your family problems fall under that category. However, you need to include some proof, too. Like I mentioned, getting someone in your school (the principal or counselor would probably be best) to write a letter would also be a significant addition to your appeal packet. Crap, I really feel bad. Best of luck to you.

I’m glad they accepted your appeal! Always check your profile to see if they are missing any documents.

So other than mintymint, what happened with the rest of you?
Did you get re-admitted? And how long did it take for you?
I am super concerned because the quarter is almost starting at after Sept. 20th
that’s it, I am dropped. I pray to God my admission isn’t dropped.
It was also because of my transcript.
ONE LOUSY PAPER= ALL THIS DRAMA!
