I can't seem to study anymore

Hey all, I'm in my spring semester in a lot of reading extensive classes. I made plans to read all I could and understand everything this semester but I just seem to be having trouble. When it comes to reading I start to read and if I read the whole assigned passage I will forget what I even read (even if I am focusing) or I can only read maybe the first page or so before become too bored to keep going on. I usually just give up and hope for the best on the test (which is not going well for me). Even during lectures I'll focus and pay attention but afterward I will have forgotten nearly everything important that was stated.

This has been a problem for me through my academic career but it's not where it's really starting to become a major problem. Does anyone have any tips to help me get really focused? My doctor mentioned a while back that I have ADD but I can't get properly tested for it due to distance and financial reasons, so seeing someone about it is not really an option right now.

A. Do you take notes in class or when you are reading? Do you break your assignments into reasonable workloads spread over reasonable amounts of time?

B. If you attend a research university or if there is one nearby, see if anyone is studying ADD-- sometimes you can get tested for free as part of participating in the study. There are also numerous state departments and programs that facilitate free or low cost testing for these king of things. There are a lot more avenues to get tested for ADHD/LD besides just going to the doctor and paying out the behind. You just have to be creative and keep trying.

I had a similar problem and I actually just invested in really good pair of noise canceling headphones and the problem is still there but in a much reduced form
