I'm sure all of you admitted students just got this sweet, little video in your email today. How fun! I can't stop watching it. :)

IU sure goes to great lengths to woo their admitted students, don't they? Why is that? Do you think they want to bring up their rankings by getting kids with higher GPAs to attend? Is it because they have a fairly high acceptance rate and it's such a large college? I notice the other three schools which my daughter has been admitted to haven't done anything like this. One of them is a CA state school, so I imagine it's not in their budget. The others are a large OOS public university and a somewhat smaller private CA school.

Well, whatever it is, I sure hope IU continues to be as welcoming to students once they've arrived on campus and decide to make it their home for 4 years. Would you say this is the case?

In the meantime, the weeks sure go by slooooowly when waiting to hear back from colleges, don't they?

they do it to make themselves relevent. I am out of state. Many people in my school recieved IU’s acceptance and said- yeah, its cool to be in somewhere, but i don’t think i’m goin. Many ahve gottent acceptances to toher schools, but have changed theirn attitude on IU and some (even the class VP who is not a business, music or journalismstudent) plan on attending. So whatever they are doing, it is working.

I agree that IU does an excellent job of wooing admitted students. My daughter is from the east coast and applied to IU last year because she was interested in business. She did not take her acceptance and scholarship very seriously at first because she was more interested in schools that are more well known on the east coast, like Penn State Delaware and UMaryland. However, after she attended the Scholars Reception in NYC , her attitude changed and she immediately scheduled a visit to IU. Why? Simply put, there was a vast difference between the attitudes of the administrators and professors from IU; they just were more positive, open and interested in my daughter. At IU , people from the Scholarship Office made her aware of specific ways she could get involved at IU and pursue her particular interest in business and the music industry. By contrast, when she asked about internships and clubs at the other universities , people took her email address and then never followed up. I may sound like a commercial ,but IU does a great job of offering the resources of a large university and the feel of a smaller school because the professors and administrators are ,for the most part, very accessible. My daughter turned down scholarships at many schools that were closer to home but is so glad she picked IU. It was definately the right choice for her. We still get the Why IU? attitude sometimes, but I think more people are becoming aware of all IU has to offer: highly ranked programs like business, big ten sports, beautiful campus, fun town and welcoming, accessible staff and great scholarships.

2Leashes, it is not just a marketing ploy. The welcoming and interested attitude continues. At least that has been our experience.

I can relate to lsb312’s experience. I’m also a student from the East Coast, and applied to IU just because of Kelley. Once I was admitted, I began looking further into the school. My experiences were so positive. Any questions I had were answered in a timely and interested fashion. I also attended the NY scholars reception, and that about sealed the deal for me. Every member of the administration that I met was so helpful and genuinely interested in me, not only as a student but also as a person. Coming to IU and Kelley was the best decision I have ever made–professors and staff are STILL so amazing and really look out for you. There are so many ways to get involved-Kelley already feels like such an intimate and inviting environment, and I couldn’t be happier!

Thank you for sharing your positive experience, Isb312. It’s nice to hear from folks who actually have lived it.

^ They might not be sending it out this year, since it happened in Feb last year. It’s not fun unless it’s personalized and it someone got you a copy it wouldn’t be personalized.

Still, my experiences were much the same this year. At first, I was all about going to Penn, Brown, Vanderbilt, NU, etc. Now, after everything that’s happened (and after some pretty generous scholarships!), I’ve realized that IU is my best fit. They do an amazing job; they even sent scarves out to the students that won their biggest automatic scholarship! I think you’d have a hard time finding many other schools that go that far to attract students. Amazing.

I’m very fortunate to have IU as my state school.
