I am having the hardest time trying to study. I JUST CAN NOT STUDY! I never have and I know I should but I feel like I am doing well by listening to lectures and writing notes. I CAN NOT GET MYSELF TO READ the textbooks. I am bored at my college and am ALREADY thinking about transferring.

Now don't give me the whole: "join clubs, blah blah" because socially I am doing well, academically I just can't take it. I don't like the classes I am in and don't know what to do.

IS ANYONE in the same situation or has ANYONE BEEN in this situation? I don't want to fail college!!! :(

Where are you trying to study? Have you tried going to a quiet corner of the library? Or perhaps a not-too-quite part of the library where other people are studying?

How are you doing academically? There are some college classes in which you can get by with going to lectures and taking notes, and still doing really well. For other classes, you pretty much have to study the texts.

Are you in any classes you like? If you couldn’t get classes in anything that interests you, it can be hard to get motivated.

Maybe try taking notes on the book? Use colored index cards and different-colored pens/markers. (I mention this because this strategy, hokey as it sounds, actually helps me focus more)

If you are serious about getting an education, which you should be in this day and age, than this too shall pass. Time and Time again many freshman’s with poor study skills tend to build momentum by adding to there schedule SI sessions, and such. If you learn to take key notes that enables you to imagine what you might be tested on, than it shouldn’t be so hard to understand what might be asked of you come test time. Some professors would not even reference the text vocally, but they might do so on the test, you should review your syllabus so that you will know what you might need to focus on more. Also make studying a little fun. Head over to youtube and locate a video with respects to what you are studying.

When it comes to Physics, Calculus etc. some students will not understand that jargon unless they actually write out there notes. Writing out your notes or key messages from a book neatly will not only give you something to do but it will also allow you to quickly comprehend what you are doing.

Also try visualizing what is going on in the book, as you read, try imagining what you have read by playing out the events in your head.

Please do not wait till midterms to try and turn around a low D.

Honestly if you understand what you are doing then don’t read the textbook. You have the same mentality that I did when I started, that since its college it has to be hard. Its not necessarily true, college is not that hard.

I got it solved. Just read the books and move on.

I wasn’t saying COLLEGE IS HARD because it’s not hard. I was having a hard time getting motivated to study something that I already learned in high school.

MY SCHOOL DIDN’T TAKE MY AP TESTS AND THEY DON’T ACCEPT CLEP!! >:o
