I can't wait for college...

I'm only a junior, but I can't wait for college because at the schools I like, the people actually want to be there. It seems like no one is motivated at my school and no one wants to do any work or go to any classes or anything. I'm not a nerd (maybe borderline, haha) but I want to go to college and LEARN more.

I can't wait to be given a fresh shot at rebuilding a social life that was destroyed many times over by various people, including the female half of the parental unit and two school bullies. Then I can worry about the intellectual aspects of school.

i just want out of my school... its not that bad, but sometimes i wonder how much better it could be

i couldnt wait for college when i applied this year...i was soo excited,,,but now, i got pawned by college :(

I anticipate that unless I end up at a Christian college (like PCC) I will probably be fine, since I can adapt to most student bodies and am indifferent to racial discord, which is exactly what happens when one has grown up in highly integrated schools for the duration of their entire life. We have been warned, however, that racial relations in the real world are not so good, however, and that this high school is a bit fake in its portrayal of interracial dating and friendships. Sadly, it is the reason my father is unwilling to travel to the Deep South because he fears rampant racial prejudice, although my mother does not care. (And the father is the white male...)

hah

there is some racial divisiveness, but its mostly the elderly who are racist.

I want out of my school too. We have a few great teachers, but everything else is pretty bad. We don't have any clubs, about 2 APs that barely anyone takes, 100 kids, very poor, etc. I want to go to college somewhere else to get out of the small town/small school life. IT SUCKS!!!!
ok it's not that bad, but it's not what I want. AP online classes only go so far...

Martha, I have been trying to tell my father that, but he does not listen...and small town life would be fun, for about six months. Then I would probably want to go to a big city, like Shanghai, which was fun considering I grew up in a small city by Chinese or Indian standards. (Seriously, the Indians call Allahabad a small city, and it has more than 2 million inhabitants...)

small town life can be a lot of fun... being around the same people all of time can get boring, but there is also a comfort level/

population, 4500

and its a retirement community (poor retirement...)

i go to a school of 477, the biggest in three of the four surrounding counties.

1/10 of the town is HS students? Must be a fairly hip town to live in if that is true. Could it explain why so many retirees live there-to relive their younger lives (which is one of the most irritating things ever)

pop. 1500, school 100......I've had a lot of fun, but lately the town has been dominated by drinking and drugs and I don't do that. A senior did an entire project on it and found out that practically 80% of our students drink. Maybe that's not a lot at other places, but 80/100.......

Drinking in moderation or alcoholic-level? One is fine, the other is a major societal, economic, and nutritional problem.

Most kids in moderation, but that's mainly at school. In my town, some of these kids (curiously, the ones whose parents and grandparents all lived here) get so hammered out of their minds all the time. One's myspace name is "alcoholic in the making" and her background is beer and tequila bottles. It's a poor town.....correlation?

I now see the light, but then again there are girls at my school which make up a large percentage of the populace that do the same thing; one even has an email entitled "drunkenreasoning".

yeah, but theres a catch...
thats the population within the city limits. most of the people at the school live in surrounding towns. i don't count in the population...

drinking is a big problem here, too. i have a friend attending court-orderded AA meetings. also, half of the town's "elite" were arrested for DUIs while leaving the country club last month. the other half paid off the officer and drove home.

marijuana is a big deal as well. if our school drug tested, there would be zero athletic teams.

but theres good stuff about my town-- southern hospitality isn't a myth, and there are great places to just hang out. though i guess that's true anywhere.

MJ is not exactly bad...I am personally for legalizing it, as I see little problem with it compared to varieties of angel dust and meth. How does the town work with an elite? My suburban area lost that section of the social structure almost 50 years ago. We have no good places to hang out, so we must either drive to someone's house or go five miles to the Mall Section.

I have yet to apply to college and I want to leave for anywhere right now.

I hate my school right now, I have like 2 or 3 people I like and trust, everyone hates me, but thats ok because aside from those 2 or 3 who are my friends; the rest of the school is into heavy drinking and I hate it. All of my old friends who were geniuses are at college and having the time of their lives.

I know a lot of people have it worse than me at their HS, but really, I want to go to college so, so bad

There needs to be a 'rant' smily constructed with fumes emanating from both ears of a very red and anguished face. And I understand the feeling of universal rejection; that is why this forum is such a good place.

i'm for legalizing it-- i didn't say it was a problem, just a big deal. meth is a problem... yeah, we have an elite...

places to hang out:
video store
pavillions at park
burned out buildings
parking lots... duh
pizzaria
mcdonalds
the "channel"
"broken bridge"
old runway of our podunk airport
new " " " " "
wal mart-- duh
