Not me, but my daughter chose Bates over Kenyon. One of her friends chose Bates over Bowdoin. Our tour guide chose Bates over U Penn. I’m sure there are a lot of other good stories. It doesn’t really matter though, right? Batesies know that Bates is the best!

Would be more helpful if the writer shared why he or she chose Bates College over the other named schools. For example, was the choice made primarily on the basis of COA ?
My son chose Bates over UNC Chapel Hill. He wanted a smaller school outside the South, but it helped that the package offered was competitive with UNC’s in-state tuition. Bates was not his first choice, but it fit his preferred school profile, and he was favorably impressed when he visited–I think he liked it better than Bowdoin and Middlebury and it definitely outshone Colby. Turned out to be an excellent fit, and as parents we can’t say enough about the Bates Career Development Center–he got excellent guidance there and had landed a good job before he graduated.
I’m not sure how you can say your son chose Bates over UNC if he wanted a smaller school outside of the south. If that’ the case, why was UNC even on his list? You could say Bates over Bowdoin/Middlebury/Colby.
What, @eb23282 ? I don’t understand your post. The student chose Bates over UNCCH. Nothing strange about it, and if that’s what happened, I’m pretty sure @milestones3 would know better than you. My kid chose Bates over University of Rochester. That happened. She didn’t apply to Bowdoin, Middlebury, or Colby. Maybe milestone’s kid didn’t apply to those colleges. And it wouldn’t matter if he/she had. Sheesh.
My two didn’t apply anywhere else so I can’t contribute to this thread!
my friend got into tufts and brown but he chose to go to bates instead.
i know this doesn’t count but according to my college counselor i would have a good chance at middlebury or wesleyan for early decision, but i am applying ED to bates instead because i love everything about it. it’s about fit, not rankings

I was actually double enrolled at Bates and the Coast Guard Academy until early June- just two weeks before I was supposed to report in to Uscga. I have friends here that chose Bates over Berkeley, Columbia, Penn and Wesleyan.
