I CHOSE FORDHAM OVER ________

I saw this on other college threads and liked the idea: I was curious what schools Fordham was chosen over. Please indicate why you picked Fordham over other accepted schools.

I’m up for something fun!

It took me a couple of minutes to remember but S1 (FCLC '14) chose Fordham over NYU Tisch, BC, Fairfield Honors, Hofstra Honors, Binghamton and Emerson and that is pretty much his order of preference. In truth, it came down to NYU’s BFA for Musical Theatre and Fordham’s BA Theatre. He chose Fordham for the Jesuit education, Theatre major…Performance and later Playwriting which IMHO is the best undergrad program around, the campus community, NYC location and faith based opportunities.

DS was an EA -he chose Fordham Rose Hill over Columbia, USMA. and some public universities. He liked the Hogwarts-like beautiful campus, the majors/minors, and that the students seemed proud of the school, as demonstrated by the many, many students wearing Fordham gear - like they were an active part of the school.
And, the NYC setting!

My daughter had no second choice. Fordham is the only school she applied to. Had she not gotten in, then I guess, NYU. Although I’m sure we couldn’t afford it.

My son is THINKING about choosing Fordham Gabelli Global Business Honors Program over UChicago, UMichigan Honors, UNC Chapel Hill, University of Maryland Honors and Indiana Kelley Direct Admit Honors. We are visiting tomorrow so we’ll see. He got a full tuition scholarship and the GBHP is very intriguing. If anyone has any personal experience with GBHP, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

D chose Fordham over NYU (honors), Barnard, Brandeis (honors and merit scholarship), Vassar and Macauly Honors (full scholarship). We initially looked at Fordham because of the NMSF scholarship, but became interested because of the small classes, the beautiful campus with easy access to Manhattan, and the ‘care for the entire person’ philosophy. After attending the April accepted students day, hearing Fr. McShane’s speech, attending the Honors reception in Alpha house and speaking with Dr. Nasuti and current honors students, D made her decision. She found a great place for herself and has been having a wonderful college experience!

The accepted student events tomorrow are fabulous. And PLEASE stay to hear Fr. McShane’s speech and the reception afterwards as he will mingle and talk with you personally. It worked for us in 07!

I chose Fordham because it was my first choice. I really wanted to go and love it. I chose it over schools like Adelphi, three CUNYs, St. Louis University etc. Even though I did get offered a lt more money at the other schools. Fordham was the place to go!

My son chose Fordham over American, Bentley, Fairfield, and George Washington. He was 90% certain that he was going to go for business (and he did) and you can’t beat Fordham’s NYC location for that. He received substantially more merit money from Bentley and Fairfield but ultimately decided that Fordham was worth the additional expense.

My daughter chose Fordham over Manhattan, SUNY Albany (Honors), College of St Rose, Flagler, Elon, UCSD, UCSB. It came down to Manhattan and Fordham. Even though Manhattan offered more merit Fordh offered more grant in aid. But it still was going to coat me about $2000 a year more to send her to Fordham. No brainer. She had visited Fordham numerous times and loved it the first time she was there, HATED it when we did a tour (even I hated it, the tour guide really turned me off also and I had loved the school when I was a senior in HS), but loved it again during admitted students visit (we missed the Spring Preview). A week before we visited Manhattan and she wasn’t impressed.

So far she is enjoying it, it the first time she’s felt challenged academically. She calls Fordham “home”.

This is kind of fun! congrats to everyone.
FWIW, back in the day, just after fire was discovered, I turned down U of Vermont, U of Wisconsin, NYU, Villanova and a wait-listed Columbia to go to Fordham. One of the best decisions of my life.

My D turned down U-Scranton, Marist, Rutgers, UCONN, Villanova, Vassar and I think College of NJ for Fordham (she was wait-listed for Lehigh, but turned it down). She has been on her job less than a year after graduation and just got a promotion, so I guess it worked out for her as well.

If I end up at Fordham I’ll have chosen it over St. John’s Honors, Missouri Journalism school (best in the country), and Drexel.

If she chooses. (Still somewhat undecided) it will be over Villanova, GW, northeastern, Brandeis as Dean Scholar, and UCONN honors. One of those still in running. Down to 2! Loved Fordham Sunday!

She choose Fordham over NYU Stern, UNC Chapel Hill, U of South Carolina, Boston University, American and UCONN. Final decision was down to Fordham Gabelli and NYU Stern. She really loves the campus and wanted to be part of a community, loves being in NYC. Sent in deposit today, all are happy.

Fabulous and Welcome To Fordham! I cant say enough about the schooland the experience. My kid had friends in Gabelli Honors. Superb experience. Some even went to Beijing! Several working on WallStreet now.

Embrace the Bronx and the opportunities for giving back to community with the Jesuit ethos! My kid did just that and it paid HUGE dividends. Just huge.

Daughter chose Fordham LC over Skidmore, Binghamton, Drexel, Loyola CH, and Ithaca. She attended the Spring Open House this past Saturday and fell in love. She couldn’t be happier!

I chose Fordham over every other school, because they gave me a full tuition scholarship!

My daughter chose Fordham over UCONN, Ithaca, Fairfield, and a few others. She had a number of great internships and now lives and works in NYC. It was a great decision on her part.

I chose it over Monmouth, Wagner, NYU, Syracuse, and TCNJ.

My daughter chose Fordham’s theater program over NYU Tisch, Rutgers Mason Gross, Bard, Sarah Lawrence, The New School, Temple, University of Pennsylvania, and some others I’m block on right now. Fordham was her top choice–she’s very happy.
