I chose NYU ____ over:

Just wondering who turned down which schools for NYU

I'll start,
NYU Stern over UCBerkeley, UCLA, BC

I chose NYU Tisch over the University of Texas at Austin

(haha what can I say, I knew what I wanted, I only applied to NYU and one safety school)

NYU Stern over UMich, Cal, UT Austin

NYU CAS over Tufts, CUNY Hunter Honors

NYU Stern over UT BHP

NYU CAS over berkeley, UCSD, and UCLA....can't wait!

NYU GSP(Tisch) over BU (COMM), Fordham (LC with a huge scholarship), American (COMM), and Emerson (F/TV)

Tulane w/ Founders Award, UGA, Ga Tech, Boston U, Emerson, and Cincinnati w/ scholarship. Waitlisted at WUSTL. AND IT WAS MY #1 CHOICE!!! WHOOOO!

I chose NYU GSP over CUNY Hunter (full-ride + apartment)

I chose NYU Stern over Dartmouth and Rutgers full ride + $4000/yr in stipends (WL at Columbia and Duke). Dartmouth was my first choice but I only recieved $5k in grants vs. $15k from Stern. Plus Stern Scholars is awesome, and in the past couple of months, I have finally set my heart on studying business.

nj chino if duke or columbia gave u 15 k would u choose those any of those 2 over stern?

Im in a similar situation as you as I am decidin between Stern Duke and Dartmouth. Dartmouth has kind of dropped out of the equation as well as it has not given me enough money in grants eitehr. So im stuck between stern scholars and Duke.

stern over cal, la, sd, usc, and aem

no, my choice would've been between Dartmouth and Stern anyway, so I didn't really care that I got WL at Columbia and Duke. But our priorities and desired qualities in colleges are probably different. 2 months ago I figured out that I wanted to do business for sure (finance and int. business) with a minor in east asian studies/philosophy. Stern is probably the best school for finance (rivaled only by Wharton) and international business. In addition, NYU is #1 in philosophy. Plus, the only other career that I'm even remotely considering is law school, and NYU Law placement by undergrads is pretty high so that still leaves doors open for me.

reasons that I didn't consider the other two schools:

columbia- campus location sucks compared to nyu, education is too liberal-arts based and not enough freedom from a stringent core.

duke- I cannot live in rural area for another 4 years, although I might have been able to live with Dartmouth's outdoor festivities.

hmm intresting would u think stern has more opportunities in the finance world as opposed to an econ major from one of those great schools? Cuz i get confused when some people say employers would prefer well-rounded students, and others who say havin a knowledge of finacne already is a huge plus.

it really depends. Stern, I think provides the best opportunities for its students just because of the proximity to Wall Street and the networks and such. However, Columbia and Duke probably also provide ample opportunities for its students. But obviously, Stern will better prepare you for your career and give you a head start.

and if you want to study finance and get into i-banking, then yeh, stern is unmatched, not even by Wharton. I remember reading somewhere that last year Stern had the most recruitment by I-banks followed by Harvard, then Wharton.

finance majors definetely have advantage as they are familiar with all the concepts and in the long it is much easier for them to move up the ranks and get to where the money really is.

NYU Steinhardt (Communications) over UCLA (huge scholarship/grant), UCSD, UCSB, UCD, UCI, UCSC, Eugene Lang, Smith College. Waitlisted at UChicago, WashU, and Wellesley.

NYU Stern Scholars over :

CMU Tepper
UC Berkeley
UCLA
U Chicago
UMD full ride
UMichigan
UVA - Echols Scholar

NYU (Tisch) over...

USC (Roski School of Fine Arts)
UCLA (Design | Media Arts)
Emerson College (Stage/Production Management, B.F.A. program)
UCSD
Loyola Marymount U.
Boston College

and finally...

Carnegie Mellon U. (School of Design)

It really came down to the CMU and Tisch. It almost hurt, having to say "no" to one of these schools.
