its been going around, so i thought I would start one for nyu. I got into stern, and I choose nyu over:
ucla, ucberkeley, ucsd, ucsb, uc davis, pepperdine, and georgetown.

GO!!!!

i know this is a “i chose NYU over____” thread but i would like to say I would have chosen NYU, but due to monetary shortages I had to choose UCSB over New York. I hate moneys…

BC, BU, Johns Hopkins, Penn State, Pratt Institute, Newhouse @ Syracuse, Rochester

The only real competition was between JHU and NYU which was REALLY tough, but NYU just ended up being a better fit.

Fordham, BU, Brandeis, Goucher, Muhlenberg, F&M, Tulane, and New College of FL.

GO VIOLETS!

WashU, Northwestern, UCBerkeley, Carnegie, Emory, Cornell, Rutgers

Fordham, Pace, CUNY CCNY, CUNY Hunter, CUNY Brooklyn

and it was kind of tough. when you think about 54k/yr vs. 4k/yr especially since the 4k/yr would cost me nothing since i have over 4k in outside scholarships.

James Madison
It was actually a really hard decision even though their academics are on complete different levels.

UCLA, UCSD, USC, and Johns Hopkins woot woot!

Fordham
I got in thru Heop so i only have to get like 3k in loans for nyu and fordham wudve cost me around 8k but i still wanna go to Fordham, i only picked nyu cuz of my parents and $$$. with that said, let the angry comments commence…

USC, American, Fordham, Bard, Howard

I was really torn between USC and NYU. I still respect USC as a school and I totally think I would have loved L.A. but USC gave me a terrible fin. aid package so my decision was clear.

Can’t remember all the schools I got into, but the ones that got serious consideration (ie. college visits) were Boston U, CMU, UDelaware, UIllinois, and NYU. My impressions at the time were:

Boston was nice, and the university was nice, but at 25k a year, not including the cost of living and travel, it was not worth it.

CMU was also 25k a year. Again, more expensive than I or my parents wanted.

UDelaware gave the best financial aid with a big scholarship. The school was small and the campus was nice, but I had reservations about the student body.

I couldn’t handle Urbana-Champaign - the land was so… flat. The student body and campus were enormous, and I didn’t know if I could handle that.

NYU gave me the second-best aid package, but it was in NYC so that seemed reasonable. They also offered me free trips as part of the Presidential Honors Scholars program, and that was very attractive.

When I look back and consider all the options I had, I still think NYU was the best choice. Of course, it was the best choice for 80k over 4 years. Would it have been worth 100k? Maybe. 150k, 200k? Definitely not.

Tufts, Brandeis, BU, and UCONN.

Nothing too impressive. Villanova, Fairfield, $15 grand a year at Quinnipiac, Presidential Scholarship to CUNY Hunter (full tuition + free laptop) and $18 grand a year to U of Hartford. Plus still waiting to hear back from the Barnard waitlist but not expecting to get in really. Sucks because I got no fin aid from NYU but the only schools I got money for were merit scholarships. My parents have 100K saved for my first two years and I’ll finish around 100k in debt. whoo. >.<

I really didn’t like the schools I got money too, and NYU CAS seems like a much better choice. I totally didn’t look at schools during the application process and regretted it when I realized I didn’t want to go to any of the schools I initially liked. Thankfully I applied to NYU on a whim just to see if I’d get in (and bc the application fee was waived.) Turned out to be my first choice in the end. Hopefully going into medicine will enable to pay of my loans eventually.

i guess as a transfer, i would say that i chose to WAIT for NYU over

SUNYs: albany, geneseo’s BS/MD, new paltz, stony brook
rutgers
pace
fordham

This was a while ago, but: Johns Hopkins, Chapel Hill, Tufts, BC, and BU.

I think my list of law schools I turned down is a little more impressive, haha.

washington u of st. louis, carnegie mellon, u of michigan, udelaware

emory, upenn, georgia tech, florida, northwestern, fordham

University College London (UCL), University of Edinburgh, University of Warwick, RPI, University of Rochester, and Union College

At first, I was considering UCL and Warwick heavily. UCL has a good reputation in general ( [THES - QS World University Rankings - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](QS World University Rankings - Wikipedia) ), and Warwick is one of the best universities for math (which is what I’m going to major in), but NYU really offers more.

It’s just amazing.
