I want to major in computer engineering. I'm finding it difficult to decide between colleges because I do have a lot of criteria for what a college needs to have. I want to go to a college that
- has a strong engineering program
- has a pretty campus that is not too spread out aka nothing like BU's campus
- has a good athletic program so i can go and watch the games
- has school pride
- somewhere no farther west than chicago and no farther south than virginia
- good social life
- not a school that is so intense such as MIT but not a party school

lots of things im looking for... but what school meets these criteria the most??

Might want to look at Virginia Tech. Not sure how our computer engineering program is but overall engineering is very good here. The campus is beautiful and very ‘defined’ (there’s a clear “on campus” and clear “off campus” area) which I think is what you mean. VT has a very good athletics program and a ton of pride. It fits in your geographical constraints (though barely) and I’ve found the social scene to be a good balance between work and play. Give it a look.

DRMAN54, there is a good amount of partying done at Penn State University Park, but that takes place at any large school. I do think Penn State University Park would be a good choice, as I went there and I think it fits into what you are wanting, but here are some options you might also like.
Some other good options:
-Michigan and Ohio State(just agreeing with these suggestions, as I think they would fit what you want. I don’t believe Cornell fits into the sports or social life area.)

One of my best friends from high school went to Penn State for college and lived in the engineering dorm (or floor, however much they got). By no means was he a heavy partier, but he still made tons of friends and loved his time there.

You could pretty much look into any of the upstate NY schools if you’re into hockey. I think just about all of them have Division I teams for that.

I’d say Illinois, but if you could really go for an iced white mocha right about now, I have to warn you that there’s only one Starbucks in Champaign-Urbana. When I first got there, there actually weren’t any.

So… fair warning. Though there is a student-run coffee house in the computer engineering building that’s pretty good.

You’ll find that the engineering campus is like a little school within the larger university. So, it’s a huge campus overall, but you’re typically going to spend your time only in the engineering part of the campus, which has its own library and is right by the student center.

Kind of sounds like it’s got everything you’re looking for.
