So I am a junior, this january, I scored 2150 second time taking SAT I, math 740, reading 710, writing 700-9. My high school UWGPA will be 3.7 because of 3.1 freshman year. WGPA will be 4.01, would be higher but there was no weighted in 9 or 10th grades. I registered for the june chem and math 2 subject tests, what would you expect me to score on them coming from AP Calc AB with a 99% average and AP Chemistry with a 98% average. To give you an idea about me, I’m very confident in my math skills other than weird trig formulas, but i know law of sines and cosines. The chem AP Exam was rough, but I think I got a 4, whereas no one in school history has passed it. Based on what I’ve written, excluding my untaken subject tests, where should I apply/look into for premed/BME? What would be some safeties, matches, and reaches???
I can’t say where you should look, you didn’t discuss cost, location, size or any kind of criteria. It is best to look for the type of place that suits your needs so you can best succeed. Do you want a highly competitive school with lots of premeds to compete with and harsh curves?, a LAC with small classes?, etc
Also you can’t predict AP score based on class grade. Some classes prepare you better than others, different schools/teachers address the subject with different preparation level.
I never tried to predict my AP scores by class grade, i know roughly what i scored based on practice tests. I want predictions of SAT based on AP. I dont care what type of college, just something where I’m roughly average.
Then your local State U is likely to be your best option. It’s probably among the most affordable choices and it’s probably big enough to have ‘something for everyone’ both academically and socially.
so you wouldn’t recommend any schools higher than like PSU or Pitt, I mean id be like 95th percentile there
There are very smart kids at most State Us. Look for the honors program(s). I haven’t recommended anything more selective (I assume that’s what you mean by ‘higher?’) because you didn’t indicate that you wanted something selective or provide any information that would indicate whether you were at fit at any schools besides that that are generally a fit for most people. And certainly if you are premed, you want to make sure you are at the top of the pack academically and don’t go into debt (because med school is wickedly expensive). Med schools are notoriously indifferent to prestige.
Again, if you have other criteria, lay 'em out.
I want to know safeties, matches, and reaches, the sate college is fine and dandy, but that doesn’t even begin to answer the question I originally asked. Based on my stats, I just wanted people to name some schools that would fit into those different categories. Im not looking for you to tell me exactly where to go, i just want a measuring stick of the level of schools I should apply to.
I know it may come as a shock to you, but your stats are not that spellbinding and unique. They are very good, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not like there are <10 colleges out there that accept students with 3.7 GPAs and 2150 SATs. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of colleges you can get into and get rejected from. What are you wanting to major in? What is your home state? What can you afford?
Its not, hence why I posted this thread. I know there are many schools I can and can not get into. I want to know ANY schools you can think of that’d be safeties, matches, and reaches for me. Thats all I want, I dont need you to help me figure out the exact school, I just need to know generally what level of colleges I should be focused on.
Without answers to the 3 questions I asked, it’s hard to know. For instance, if you live in Texas, UT Austin might be a match depending on your class rank, but if you are out of state, UT Austin becomes a reach because so few OOS students are admitted. If you live in Michigan, getting into your flagship would be very difficult for anyone because UMich is very selective, definitely a reach, but if you live in Idaho the flagship could probably be a safety. And all of this is not even accounting for finances, which very often have a huge factor in deciding on the college you eventually will attend.
Edit: I just noticed that you did mention your interest. If you are interested in premed, then the financial aspect is huge. Med school is very expensive, so you don’t want to spend a lot of money on undergraduate.
money is no object
Really… and what is your home state?
A lot of state universities (e.g. UC system) don’t consider freshman year grades in the evaluation process. You would be given a lot more of a competitive chance when applying to these schools.
UC’s are pretty far away for me, like 3000 miles or so. As for PA state schools, I think id be a shoe in, my gpa is in 75%, course rigor is way above average, and SAT is in like 90%+
I live in PA
I don’t like to use absolutes but pretty much say that all 4 year schools will have students with stats similar to yours. Without more info about your preferences/interests, at this point I’d say consider all US colleges that also have BME program.
ok
You need to formulate a list of colleges you are interested in applying first. Use the Supermatch feature on this website to help narrow down some schools. From there, see which schools are of interest and post these results.
From this list, CC posters can then tell you if they think they a Safety/Match and Reach schools and can offer some alternatives to consider. You need to do the research first to narrow down 4000+ schools to about 10-20. This is one of the many joys of applying to college.
What I wanted was an answer like “**** would be a match, so look for a school around that level of prestige” or “**** is a reach, so look into its rivals for other reaches”
No one is going to do the research for you. You need to have a list of schools you are interested in applying.
Harvard/Dartmouth/NYU/MIT/Pitt/UPenn etc… You have given no criteria other than you live in PA. Your STAT and GPA and Pre-med/BME. Can you afford the California UC’s at $55K/year? Are you willing to be full pay at NYU at $65K/year??? You need to give posters some guidelines. Do you want to stay close to home or go 3000 miles away? Do you want a school with alot of school spirit? Do want a party school? Do you want small class sizes? Less than 15,000 students or more? Large campus or more intimate campus?
These are all considerations and you need state your preferences. SuperMatch can narrow the list by inputting your GPA/SAT scores/Intended major/Location/Size of school etc… start there or do not expect anyone to give you answers.
