I Cried While Writing This...

Hey guys, give me some time here, a few hours, and I will be back on with my new essay. THis is the point where I need each and every one of you to help me as much as you guys can. Ive grown to think of this forum as my own counselor, and I desperately, BADLY need to win this appeal. I know many won't understand the way I feel, but at the same time, quite a few of you have probably felt this way about ONE university.

Just got off the phone with an admissions rep, names Josh, and oh my god was he the NICEST person ive talked to in USC so far. Usually all the admission reps hang up, talk low, and never answer you.

He asked me what information I had, he told me that i should try my best, write a great, impressive essay, (he said my essay is the thing that will change their minds) and wished me luck. He sounded very impressed with everything I had to say.

Now, all of you guys wait till I post my revised essay, and then we can get to work. Again, I would appreciate ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you guys could offer me, INCLUDING sample letters, people I can contact for more information, connections in usc (:)) and comments.

Thanks you guys. You guys make me feel better. :)

What other colleges were you accepted at?

are you ready to find out, 2+2?

I got rejected from CalTech, UCLA, and obviously now, USC
Waitlisted: Occidental
Accepted: Hmm...uh..yeah..:(

Only 4 colleges? To be honest, none of those could really be considered safeties :(

Are you doing anything to try to get off Occidental's waitlist? That's important, too, and may have shorter odds than reversing USC's rejection even though the adcom was helpful.

Yes I will try all that soon...

Guys, another topic. I need help starting my appeal. I have all the core content, ending, etc...i dont know how to begin the actual letter ie. the first few lines, the introduction. Also, can someone talk in depth about USC programs and other things that seperate it from other universities? What can I say to let them know that I chose USC for a reason? (i had the TAP program in mind)

Any suggestions?

". Also, can someone talk in depth about USC programs and other things that seperate it from other universities? "

I really think that this is something you need to do. What exactly is it about USC that is causing you to want to go there so badly? You should have specifics about what USC has to offer you. If you can't think of specifics, then look at their web site and look at course offerings in majors that you're interested in, ECs, professors teaching courses you'd like to take.

We can't tell you what's special about USC because that viewpoint depends on you. If you love it, it will be important for you to count and list the ways. If not, it will be very hard for USC to take you seriously. They might even assume that your reason for wanting in is something superficial such as having a love interest there.

Hey Mom,

Yea that part about the seperating from other universities is the part I just finished. I didn't really have a problem with that. My main issue is how to type up an introduction that will hook the reader and leave them wanting to read more. There are going to be hundreds of appeals; i want mine to stand out. Any suggestions?

I think you need to pay attention to the warnings about the risks of posting an essay here. Really, you've gotten lots of advice, but this isn't the place to construct your essay. If this is really important to you, consider hiring the professionals at college confidential to help you. Or find a teacher or trusted adult. Someone who knows you and can help express your strengths. Good luck.

I dont want to post my essay here, Zagat. I posted my rough draft idea paper that I completed while I was half asleep and emotional.:)

I am now asking for help/advise on how to start my letter off. I am actually getting places with it.

Chris,
On of the best things that you could do is to explain why you want to go adn why USC is your first choice. Also, tell USC what you can offer to their school. Best of luck, and remember, you can always transfer to USC.

Just curious how your appeal letter to USC came out...I know they are hard to write...
