I-Day cautions

Basics to be…

PLEASE be careful during BCT. You do NOT want to get injured such that you have to leave.

Get off the bus…get off fast…but BE CAREFUL not to trip and fall…anywhere.

The other thing to avoid is “turn back” ball during Field Day. It’s not worth it.

Do your cadre just give you the opportunity to not participate in “medical turn back ball”?

yeah you get to choose. i played tug of war and did some relay runs. it was a lot of fun! look forward to field day.

“turn back ball”???

Medicine Ball. Very easy to get hurt and end up with a medical turnback.

yeah, but that game was awesome. an extremely fun game to play.

I do not plan on playing “medical turn back ball”, unless I am absolutely sure that I think I can play without getting hurt.

we were in the championships and ended up havin pretty much the entire squadron out there  very scary, lots of big football players!

I think its called Push ball - and 2011 lost multiple cadets. Despite a big focus on safety this one event is still “old school.”

Make sure you stand FAR back if you’re not playing, too. I ended up underneath the ball and I was just sitting there (I didn’t get hurt, thankfully).

Another caution:

You may want to insure that your bladder and bowels are empty upon boarding the bus. You don’t want to have an “accident”

Not really. Each squad has to have a certain number of people so usually the cadre just pick who is going to participate for each thing. Push ball was a lot of fun, so I would recommend just manning up and doing it.

We got to choose, then if people were undecided they placed them in events that needed people. Thats how my squad did it in beast.

yep we got to choose too… heck, by the end of the game, almost no one who signed up was still playing

it’s not about “manning up”. If you are small, there is a GOOD chance you will get a significant injury, possibly bad enough for a turnback. Don’t decide to do it because you think you’ll look weak if you don’t

but it is really fun!

Regarding Push Ball (once referred to as “murder ball”), I saw a girl pull some guy’s shorts down and run off. It was hilarious.
And one of my friend’s unbreakable BCGs broke during push ball. It was incredible.

But this next part is very important if you, like me, are not the average cadet (male, 5’8, 180lbs). I don’t care what anybody tells you; it is totally worth it to show up to I-day early. Learn from my lesson, none of the uniforms that came in my size (small) were available anymore. I had shirts that went to my knees and shorts that went to my ankles. It was embarrassing. Show up early! Claim your uniform!

Bluemer, I presume you were issued new uniforms once they were available? If so, how long did that take?

BLUEMER! You haven’t been on here in a LONG time my friend! :)
