I-day

ooh ooh i won squad-wide bearing contests.... i'm a rock.

i came in 3rd once. not even kidding. i was a little scared during basic... lol

Bearing contests? I take it you aren't supposed to laugh?

not even smile :|

That sounds like fun. Hmmm... I wonder how I would do.

Punishment for smiling?

Haha, oh man, funny story from AFA SS on that one... Mouth full of water, people in each others faces... Cadre then asked people to slow dance (regardless of the partner) with the person staring them in the face. I failed early but glad I did after I saw that little shenanagin... Good times :D

how are you split up into squadrons? will you find out the other 4th classes in your squadron on I-day, if not when? how will you know what cadre will be in your squadron, will you meet them in BCT? and finally do the squadrons have reputations, i.e. some are more intense then others visa versa? will you be in the same squadron for all four years? how big are they? im alittle confused on the squadron thing if you cant tell haha thanks!

Ok, to begin, the following units consist of roughly this number of people:

Wing - 4,000
Group - 1,000
Squadron - 100
Flight - 30
Element - 10

During BCT, you have roughly 1,000 new basics, so they make up one group. Within this group, there are 10 squadrons (makes sense, right?). Each squadron has four flights. You'll spend the vast majority of your time in BCT with your flight.

During the academic year, the other three classes are added and comprise the entire Cadet Wing. The wing is broken down into four groups, each of which has (again) ten squadrons. You'll spend the majority of your time during the academic year with your squadron.

Each BCT flight corresponds with an academic year squadron. For example, A-Flt in Aggressors squadron will move to CS-01 (that's cadet squadron) during the year. A-Sqd's B-Flt will move into CS-02. This continues all the way through Jaguars D-Flt, whose basics will become four degrees in CS-40.

The difference lies in the number of people in your unit. When you're only with your fellow basics, you make up one flight, but the addition of the other three classes is enough to make up a squadron size unit.

After finishing your freshman year, you'll be moved to a new squadron where you'll spend your three years as an upperclassman. There are a bunch of reasons for doing this - the least of which involves a fresh start and equality in the eyes of your fellow uppers.

During BCT, however, you'll meet your flightmates immediately, as well as your cadre. Some squadrons during the year are more strict than others, but everything is roughly the same during BCT.

I hope I've explained this well enough. Let us know if you've got any lingering questions.

oh no thanks that was helpful! i think everything will be a tad confusing no matter what when you first get there, you're crammed with so much information its hard to remember it all but of course you're required to! i just recieved appointment class of 2013 i'm trying to learn as much as possible so i wont be as nervous/scared of the "unknown"...i'm avoiding facebook groups bc the cadre supposely look at them and take names i prefer to remain as anonymous as possible dont need any extra attention in BCT!

good idea. :)

oh so it really is true about the facebook thing, wasnt sure just wanted to be safe

well explanation Petko. only major thing is see is new basics is closer to 1300-1400, not 1000.

and missmuff, i don't believe you got 3rd in a bearing contest. :p lol. i hope you got plenty of pause and hands to head sleep after that! haha

and yes, the facebook things are true. for my class we had the "myspace people", and you don't want to be one of them. there's nothing wrong with getting to know future classmates, just don't post stupid things online. ie, don't tell '11 and '12 they're weak (even though they are :p haha. j/k). use common sense and you'll be fine

eagle...you're hysterical
and i forgot to do my physics preflight, then i did the wrong one, so i'm still not...(you know the drill)...asleep. :D

sad day. well just a bit of info re-relating this to the thread:

make sure the night before I-day you try to go to sleep/I early enough cause the next day will be long. but if you're like me you won't be able to *sleep anyway, so it makes for a long night. but don't worry. after that, getting sleep is much easier. you'll be tired enough

Lets see... fourth basic training... I think I will be able to get plenty of sleep.

As to the Facebook thing... don't even bother TRYING to do that. It really upsets cadets when you call yourself a cadet before you have earned the right, wait until you have your cXXfirst.last@usafa.edu address before you try to join ANY USAFA related groups.

Kinda reminds me of the people that got AF tatoos and failed out of enlisted basic... the TIs found it so funny that they would make anyone stupid enough to get one before coming pay dearly for their mistake.

missmuff this is truly dissapointing. I will see you in class mwhahaah

4th basic?...

Yup. Army then Air Force enlisted, Prep school BMT (JOKE!!!), then academy. I am concidering doing the bulldog program so that I can list on my first OPR, "Most basically trained officer in the Air Force."

hey now p school basic wasnt a total joke!
