We watched movies, they read us bedtime stories, and if someone was hungry they got a late night snack. How isn't that a joke?

well then yall had it easy!

so does that mean i should be worried to even post on sites like these? obviously i'm not saying anything stupid but i sure wouldnt want to upset anyone before BCT! ha im wondering if this is a safe place to ask legitmate questions or even here i'll be looked up and hunted down...

we will look you up and hunt you down. mwahahahahaaaaaaa!
jk
ask away! :)
your real name isn't on here, and you can hide behind your screen name 'til we meet you in April at Orientation. heehee. no, but seriously, this is a good resource. and the dinner was the best part of orientation (besides FOCUS, clearly. cool your head, eagle ;) )

This is a safe place, we're all friends here (sort of). But PLEASE don't talk crap about 2011 and 2010 on facebook. Those are the two classes (besides my own, of course) that I respect the most here(not sucking up, it's actually true), and they will be your cadre, so be careful.
But you all will do fine. Some guys ripped apart the upper three classes on facebook before we got here and we're still alive (well, we'll see how that goes in 46 days).

haha good no i dont talk crap im nervous enough as it is and have so much respect for the cadets! however on a side note seeing that ya'll do manage to have some fun as doolies makes next year less scary :) Dont get me wrong i'm excited as ever to have recieved an appointment but im also aware this means im embarking on one of the most challenging experiences of my life and thats a tad nerve-racking ;)

so if we talk to other '13 appointees on facebook and all just that saying we're excited to go and things like that are we safe?

yep, i'd say so.
if someone starts saying something stupid, leave the group.

This is a good starting point, but let your cadre earn your respect rather than giving it away freely. You'll meet some incredible people here, but others will disappoint you. Try not to put this place up on a pedestal. We're not superheros here; we're just college-aged kids trying to figure out how to do a decent job in the Air Force.

But we do have some fun on the side. ;)

yes, you should want to meet your classmates and you should be excited. if you're not excited about coming, then you shouldn't come. the only problems is when ppl start calling themselves "cadets", which you don't earn the right to until *after/I you complete BCT.

this forum you should ask away. we're here b/c we want to help you, whether its answering application questions, daily life, or just how we dealt with similar situations (nervous/excited/scared,etc)

and missmuff, of course the dinner was only 2nd to SPIRE and getting to hang out with me. i just figured it was so obvious u didn't even need to say it ;) haha

on that note, any who lives near richmond, VA or williamsburg, VA, send me a PM before friday if you get the chance. Missmuff and I will hopefully be out there this weekend

and petko speaks for himself...

we actually are superheros. it's pretty awesome... haha

Ok, yeah, that's true. I have laser vision.

one more question about squadrons are they completely random when assigning them, same goes for roomates? and will your roomate(s) at BCT be the one you have for freshman year? i'm curious if they put similar majors in the same squadron, etc.

oh and is it a smart idea to bring a laptop or invest in one even though you are issued computers? just so you have the ability to bring laptops to class

You will be issued a laptop that is required to bring to class.

squadrons are "random" on an individual basis, but there is a program for trying to equalize all squadrons (ie, number of recruited athletes, male/femals ratio, etc). for your shuffle (move squadrons after freshman year), it again is random with the same process, adding in the people who "legacy" into a squadron, ie go to the same squadron a relative graduated from.

roommates in basic are assigned. as for the school year, it depends on what squadron you are in. some let you pick, others assign.

there is no need to get your own laptop, since they force you to buy theirs anyway. it's alright unless you're in the class of 2010 and got the worst computers ever made (Gateway tablets) which break on you but you have no warranty since gateway sold out the warraranty to another company who declared bankruptcy. (i'm a little bitter if you can't tell)

Just out of curiosity, what kind of laptop did the class of '12 get?

missmuff or someone check me, but its some sort of fujitsu table, similar or the same to what 2011 got. i know u aren't getting those cause they said they're phasing them out and don't want us to order those as replacements for ours (2010)

Here all along I thought they use the "sorting hat" for putting basic cadets into squadrons. But I am glad to hear you are all superheros. I will certainly sleep better tonight!

Yeah we got Fujitsu Lifebook T-series laptops. They are pretty nice except the screen is really small.

I agree with what PETKO said. Being in the middle of freshmen year, I can tell you you will be surprised by how many people don't exactly live up to the "standards" of the academy.
