Other notes: School is in rural NE. We have nvr had a student do stuff life Siemens and Intel or USABO or such. In fact, I brought USABO and USAMO to our school this year. My counselor said she was going to say I was one of the most involved students shes ever had.

Btw...if anyone wants to tell me if my main common app essay is on par with Yale, I'd appreciate it..just PM me!

heheh, I’m kind of in the same boat: rural area, small school, I was the first student to do Intel, etc.

Now back to the point: you have a great chance. Your GPA and scores are, of course, spotless. Just make sure in your ECs and essays, you show focus (which is bio, i assume) because just judging from your post, the ECs and awards are a bit eclectic and most are neither very major nor attention-grabbing.

I’m a little confused about your USAMO, USABO comment…if you qualified or got a semi-finalist/finalist spot on them respectively, that would raise your chances by a huge factor!

Good luck fellow 2014 SCEA! I’m helplessly enamored with Yale too :)

You’ve got solid chances. I’d say a rejection is highly unlikely and that a deferral is most likely. An acceptance SCEA is not out of the question.

Sorry, I should clarify a few things. Firstly, through my schools science club that I founded, I scheduled USABO and USAMO tests this year for our school…so ya probably cant put those on my resume cuz it would be too late if I did do well in them. Additionally, while I did do research, I don’t think I will submit to siemens or intel. Actually, I only learned about these competitions thru CC.

Also, ya my awards are kinda all over the place (hopefully economics and science are the two dominant “award” times that I have though). Should I omit some that arent focused on those areas?

all the USAxO’s are extremely recognized - even a semifinalist spot would indeed help, although i’m not sure to what extent exactly

but then you would have to make the trade-off between the advantages of applying SCEA and possibly qualifying for an olympiad and then applying RD

Well, of course it would help you, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply now. I received a 50K award after I was accepted to Yale (applied SCEA). Of course that would have helped had I applied later, but the admissions office clearly didn’t need it to make a decision. I think you should apply SCEA to “show your dedication”; considering your other activities, I don’t think USABO would be the deciding factor.
